BFCCPS Kripp Family Community Service Award

"Tonight, we have the privilege of recognizing a family that truly embodies our Community Service pillar and has lived a life dedicated to serving others.

Being the PCO President is no easy task. Many people here tonight have held that role, and they will tell you the same. But taking on that responsibility while BFCCPS was becoming a regional school and planning for expansion was an especially significant challenge. It requires someone who is organized, passionate about the school, committed to supporting students, teachers, and families, and willing to lead with clarity and purpose.

Much of our time together was spent planning how to support new families as BFCCPS expanded. The Family Ambassador Program was born from Sarah’s desire to ensure that everyone felt welcomed, included, and like they truly belonged.
Sarah’s commitment to community extends far beyond BFCCPS.

While helping us plan for expansion and welcome new families, she was also actively engaged in Franklin. She has been a strong advocate for Shop Franklin, encouraging support for local businesses; a supporter of the Downtown Partnership; and a dedicated champion of the SAFE Coalition. Sarah continually finds the time and energy to make her community the best it can be—whether at school, locally, or globally.

Most recently, Sarah began a master’s program in counseling because helping others is simply second nature to her.

"As we transition from middle schoolers to high schoolers, and our dreams change to fit the people we are growing into, don’t forget the late nights spent talking in DC, the Character Assemblies celebrating each other’s growth, the people who helped us get where we are now. I hope that as you all become the next pioneers to our future, you believe you can always be the next D1 hacky sack player, chess grand master, or Nobel Peace Prize winner, as long as you put your heart into it and continue to dream big.

Now, eighth-grade graduates, as our evening comes to an end, I’ll send you off with a very, very important question. What do you want to be?

As I prepare to graduate, I’d like to present this oil painting I created as a parting gift for the school.

I created this painting to express how grateful I am for the support, encouragement, and opportunities that this school has given me over the years. I hope this painting will remain as a reminder that every student has a unique voice and a story worth sharing.

School Dismissal Manager has informed us that recurring dismissals and/or exceptions that were created during the school year are not carrying over past the originally scheduled last day of school, June 17th.

Please review your student’s dismissal recorded in the School Dismissal Manager for the last week of school. As a reminder, June 24th is our last day of school and is an early release at noon. This week is full of milestones, the last day of Kindergarten, our Grade 8 Banquet and now the start of Kindergarten Screening. Today our incoming kindergarteners set foot in the building for the first time. They will get to to meet each other, meet the teachers, see the classrooms and play a little. They'll be back again on either Friday, Monday or Tuesday for another short visit!

The founders of BFCCPS took inspiration from Ben Franklin’s belief that an individual's character could be improved through focused practice of virtuous behavior. Ben Franklin used a gardening analogy to describe the development of one’s character that resonated with BFCCPS founders.

Our approach to character education is based on the belief that parents and teachers have a responsibility to help students develop good habits. In our approach a virtue is understood as a good habit. A virtue is not a point of view or a matter of what we like or dislike; a virtue is a positive character trait. We believe Character Education is about helping students know the good, love the good, and do the good.

At the end of each year, a small group of students are awarded a Medal of Virtue. This award is presented to students whose overall character and demonstration of all four virtues has distinguished them. The recipients are determined by the full grade level teaching team.

Starting on June 26th BFCCPS students will have a booth at the Franklin Farmer's Market on Fridays from 2-6 pm to promote their Capstone Projects. We thank the management of the Farmer's Market for providing our students with this incredible opportunity to promote their projects and represent BFCCPS in our local community!

Each year we are incredibly proud of the variety and quality of the projects our students produce through Capstone each year. Through this project our students illustrate that young people can make an impact on their school, community and world.

Already we see projects supporting The Santa Foundation, Rhode Island Cat Sanctuary, the importance of preventing the spread of greenhouse gases, the Red Cross and Boston Children's Hospital. As students secure approvals to book the BFCCPS table you'll find them added to the Community Service Calendar. We hope you'll stop by on Fridays throughout the summer to enjoy the market and meet with our students!
