Staples Stadium is one of the most beautiful stadiums around. However, pine beetles have attacked this beautiful landscape. The only way to truly stop the spread is to cut down the infected trees and those within about 100 feet of the infected trees. We will be doing this work next week. Staples Stadium will look different for a while, but we risk losing the entire landscape if we don’t act. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Which Heard County Teacher(s) Impacted You the Most? (Past or Present)

09/26/2026

The purpose of this post is to address any rumors concerning the football game last night. There were no guns or drugs found to be involved in any incident last night. A disruptive student from a neighboring school district was directed to leave by our School Resource Officers. After search and questioning by law enforcement, there were no guns or drugs found to be involved in any way.

We are proud to announce that all three Heard County Elementary Schools have been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education in the area of cursive writing with the John Hancock Banner and Ribbon of Distinction!

Schools where at least 90% of students can write their names in cursive earn the John Hancock Banner and Proficiency Ribbon. Schools where at least 90% of students can write both their names and the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution in cursive earn the John Hancock Banner and Ribbon of Distinction.

To demonstrate proficiency, schools submit representative samples of students' cursive writing and attest that at least 90% of their students meet the requirements for the recognition level they seek.

Cursive writing is included in Georgia's English Language Arts standards as part of the state's commitment to developing strong, confident readers and writers. Cursive instruction supports students by developing fine motor skills, strengthening spelling and writing fluency, supporting memory and cognitive development, and allowing students to develop a distinctive personal signature.
