It has been the tradition since the founding of FCS that we start the school year off with camp! Our highest values center not just on the academic element that is core to our school, but also on fun and learning through community building that draws us closer together. Thus, each year, our lower and upper division students begin by gathering in our classrooms, saying goodbyes to parents, loading buses and heading off to Horton Haven Christian Camp. A unique aspect of King’s Mountain Camp, is that our seniors, as the leaders of our school, are responsible to plan the week. They arrive on Monday, a day before the rest of the students, to prep and prepare the activities that will take place.
Starting on Tuesday, the rest of the students will spend 3 full days with focused worship and teaching time to dive into spiritual growth, team activity time to build memories and bond, and free time to just connect with each other and our staff who have come to chaperone.
Camp then culminates Thursday night, in what we call the Honor Code signing. This is a special part of who we are at Franklin classical school because it embraces the importance of honor and virtue. Our students commit in this school year to honor God, honor each other, and honor their parents and their teachers. As our students are signing the honor code, our senior class, as well as Alumni, gather to pray over the rest of the students to solidify this character commitment that they are making to the Lord.
When the honor code has been signed by all of the students, the night ends with laughter and fun through team skits. Thanks to our alumni who attended, and performed the most hilarious and outstanding skit of the evening!
