Why major or minor in English or Creative Writing? Well, one among the countless reasons is that we throw the best parties! 🎉🥳 Today, we hosted our Welcome (Back) Party to connect with our new & returning students. We enjoyed 🔥fabulous🔥 salad + pasta from Enzo’s and had a blast playing nerdy literary games, curated by the hostess with the mostest, Dr. Crisafulli. Fall 2026 is off to a great start! 💛💙

We suited up in our finest blue & gold to welcome the class of 2030 at this morning’s Bell Ceremony! Best wishes to all for a fantastic school year! 💙💛🐻🔔

Dr. Banks had an amazing time presenting at her favorite academic conference, the International Gothic Association! She spoke on a stacked panel of Shirley Jackson scholars, caught up with old friends, and even spent some time traveling around England & Scotland. 🦇☠️🧛‍♀️👻

Dr. Crisafulli has continued her literary tour in Italy! She’s been able to go to a special exhibition on Homer and the Trojan War at the Colosseum; see a chariot depicting Achilles’ life and busts of Homer and Euripides at the Capitoline Museum in Rome; and visit Ravenna, the town where Dante died in exile and where Lord Byron once lived. She’s even bringing home Dante-themed fabulous literary prizes for this year’s departmental holiday party! 💛💙🐻

While in England, Dr. Crisafulli also had to pay homage to Shakespeare by visiting his birthplace, school, and wife’s farm in Stratford-Upon-Avon and by catching 2 performances at the Globe Theatre in London!

Thanks to the generosity of the college’s faculty travel funds, Dr. Crisafulli got to visit York, England, this week to see performances of the town’s medieval mystery plays—a dream come true for her! She also got to do a walking tour and see two museum exhibits about the plays. She’s looking forward to sharing lots of pictures and all that she learned with her students! 🏰🗡️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Happy birthday to the one and only Dr. Crisafulli! She is an award-winning teacher, extraordinary advisor, brilliant leader, and the rock of our department. In addition to all she does during the school year, she also finds time to catch up with alums during summer break. Most recently, she re-connected with Richard Miller (‘16), one of our very first creative writing majors!

Please join us in wishing her a day that is as wonderful as she is! 🥳

For our final Scholars’ Day post, we’re recognizing the hard work of students in Dr. Crisafulli’s ENG 227: Advanced Grammar! Zoom in to see these beautiful sentence diagrams, proving that the English discipline is equal parts science and art. Finals week is upon us, and we’re looking forward to graduation this Saturday! 💛💙
