Admissions Over Time 04/16/2026

Here is an example of how each college's admission data can change over 20 years. Look at those tuition changes! https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1JL5owCDgV/

Admissions Over Time From the overturn of race-based affirmative action to changes in standardized test requirements, the past two decades of undergraduate admissions at Brown have seen numerous changes.

We love when our Root families give us feedback! The Root team is always inspired by Heidi's work. So much goes on behind the scenes with our group. We don't ask for testimonials, or pay for marketing or any of that, which I guess is what makes receiving emails from families like the one below that much more fun. We love what we get to do!

A dad saw this guy through the snow as we talked college admission. The wonder of “is it an owl or a hawk?!” matched the energy of our meeting as we considered why a college could be the one. I love this part of the process. What is the why? That adrenaline rush considering “what if” about the unknown. Nobody’s college admission process can be completely scripted. Enjoying the wonder keeps everyone grounded in the joy of potential. Love this!

Don’t Skip A Crucial Step In College Admission 01/14/2026

We talk through questions like these with our students. This is a great read and a reminder that the college selection process is about how the process can spotlight the student's wants and goals vs. being focused on how to match what a college is "looking for."

Don’t Skip A Crucial Step In College Admission In many ways, high school is a big experiment on being one’s best self: seizing opportunities to explore, taking risks, failing, succeeding, and questioning at every turn.

The University of Michigan on January 5th:
"U-M has released an initial wave of Early Action decisions. If you haven’t received a decision yet, this is not a reflection of your pending decision. More decisions are on the way and will be shared by Jan. 30."

All postponed Early Decision applicants were added to the Early Action pool. (Early Decision applicants who were not admitted or denied were postponed in December.)

Today's admitted applicants included students who were postponed from ED and who applied EA.

Of those who were admitted after being postponed ED, many did not submit their statement of continued interest. (So no need to panic if postponed applicant is waiting to submit it as would not have impacted this round. Really!)

Our office has seen students admitted from both pools -ED postponed and EA- in state and out of state and to multiple U of M colleges. The majority of EA decisions will be released by January 30th.

We are thrilled for everyone who has been admitted to the University of Michigan! GO BLUE!

We are thinking about each of you waiting to hear a decision. Don't overthink this clunky process. Stay TRUE TO YOU!
