Meet Mr. Dave Lassell! Our new middle and upper school band director!
Born and raised in Arlington, Virginia, David Lassell has been surrounded by music and musicians his whole life. He studied piano from age five and added the saxophone and the bass to his instrument pile in middle school. High school for Mr. Lassell was four years of concert band, jazz band, jazz vocal ensemble, madrigal singers, piano lessons, bass lessons, and any other musical collaborations that presented themselves. After spending two years at Virginia Tech, he came back to Northern Virginia to pursue a degree in Music Education at George Mason University. In 2004, Mr. Lassell began teaching at what is now Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts Middle School in Houston, Texas. From there he moved onward and upward through a career path that eventually led him back to Virginia, where he’s been the band director at Kenmore Middle School in Arlington for the past four years.
“That’s all the general info anyone really needs to know. Here’s the important stuff. I’ve been in a lot of places and worked with some genuinely awesome people. I’ve tried to always be the best musician and teacher that I can be by working with my students to find the correct path for each of them. In the few hours I was there meeting students and faculty, it became clear that BGA is where I want to be. Your energy and enthusiasm was fantastic to experience. Please know that I am always ready to share and receive knowledge with whoever is willing to do so as well. I look forward to seeing you again and meeting all those who I have not yet met in just a few short weeks. Have a great summer, and I’ll be there when you come back.”
