Our Jiu Jitsu community is a family, and right now, one of our own could use some extra love and support. ❤️

The Mitchell family is facing the unexpected loss of John’s dad, Big John, while also preparing to welcome their fourth baby, sweet Eli.

As they navigate unimaginable grief of losing John’s dad while preparing for this new little life, we’re coming together to help in one of the simplest but most meaningful ways—making sure meals are one less thing they have to worry about.

We’re sharing this Meal Train for anyone who would like to provide a meal, contribute, or simply help surround this family with love during the days and weeks ahead.

This is what community is about. We show up for one another.

Please consider blessing the Mitchell family and helping us take care of one of our own. ❤️

Thank you for helping nourish the Mitchell family during this time as they mourn the loss of John’s father, Big John, and simultaneously prepare to welcome sweet baby #4, Eli, to their family. Your prayers, support and meal deliveries help so much! You may know about them having diet restrictions,...

Michael Thomas Wright

Michael Thomas Wright, 43, of Calvert, Texas, passed away on August 1, 2026, in Calvert. He was born on September 16, 1982, in Bryan, Texas, and spent his childhood growing up in both College Station and Calvert.

Michael was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose thirst for knowledge, deep sense of wonder, and adventurous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He had a remarkable ability to engage in meaningful conversations and loved exploring ideas from every angle. Whether discussing current events, history, science, or faith, Michael was always eager to learn, challenge perspectives, and share his enthusiasm for discovering something new.

A Christian in faith, Michael found joy in God's creation and loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed camping, kayaking, traveling, golfing and music in all its forms. Whether listening, playing guitar with family and friends, or simply sharing songs that meant something to him, music was a constant source of connection and joy. His work as a UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) Technician allowed him to travel, and some of his favorite memories were made bringing his family along to experience new places together.
Home for Michael was the family property in Calvert, a place he had loved since he was a teenager. It remained one of his favorite places throughout his life and became the setting where he built cherished memories with Laurie, David, and Elizabeth. There, he treasured teaching his children the dignity of hard work, the beauty of God's creation, and the lasting values found in country life.

Above all, Michael loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie Shank Wright and his children, David Thomas Wright and Elizabeth Anne Wright, of Calvert, Texas; his mother, Sheri Keyes of Cameron, Texas; his grandmother, Barbara W. Keyes of College Station, Texas; and his brother, Brian Noriega of College Station, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Chelsea Noriega, and his uncle, Steven Keyes, who held a special place in Michael's heart.

Michael will be remembered for his intelligence, adventurous spirit, love of learning, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he shared so freely.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 802 S. Market Street, Hearne, Texas 77859. A private burial will follow in Calvert, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward for a reception at Robertson County Cowboy Church, 3470 FM 1644, Franklin, Texas 77856.

Memorial donations may be made to support Laurie, David, and Elizabeth through the family's GoFundMe:

If you or someone you love is struggling with depression, hopelessness, or thoughts of su***de, please know that help is available. Reaching out for support is an act of courage, and no one has to face those struggles alone. Michael's family hopes his memory encourages others to seek help, offer compassion, and remind those who are hurting that they are valued and loved.

Over the last few days, a prayer has continued to rest on my heart.

That together, we would show up for Laurie, David, and Elizabeth in a way that passes all understanding. That God would use His people to bring hope where there is heartbreak, peace in the middle of chaos, and tangible reminders that this family is deeply loved and not walking this journey alone.

Every donation, every share, every meal, every prayer, and every act of kindness is a reflection of God’s love in action.

If you feel led, would you please consider sharing or donating to the GoFundMe below? No gift is too small, and your willingness to share this family’s story may be the very thing that reaches someone else who feels called to help.

Thank you for continuing to be the hands and feet of Jesus. My heart is overflowing with gratitude for this incredible community and the love you have shown this precious family.

With deep love and gratitude,

One of the best parts of Rob Co BJJ isn’t just what happens on the mats—it’s the community that forms around them.

While our students are learning Jiu-Jitsu, building confidence, and growing in Character, Commitment, and Courage, friendships are forming too. Parents cheer each other’s kids on, celebrate milestones together, and encourage one another every step of the way.

We’re more than a Jiu-Jitsu gym. We’re a community that supports each other on and off the mats.

If you’ve been looking for a place where your family can belong, we’d love to welcome you.
