As we head into a new semester, weβd like to welcome Dr. Larry Brown and Marcus Wilson to the Emmanuel Online team.
DR. LARRY BROWN β DIRECTOR OF ONLINE LEARNING
A native of Carnesville, GA, Larry graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in Naval Engineering and Economics before earning three seminary degrees through Liberty University and Liberty University Online. Brown has also taught in-person and online at both the high school and college levels. Because of his own learning and teaching experiences via online formats, he has been able to witness the benefits of online education first-hand. Larry has also taught for the past two years at Emmanuel as a Math and ECF adjunct.
In his role as the Director of Online Learning, Larry will oversee the undergraduate Distance Learning program and work closely with the graduate program coordinators. He will also oversee the Canvas software program used for course development and coordinate textbook issues with the Campus Bookstore.
MARCUS WILSON β Student Success Manager
A native of Athens, GA, Marcus Wilson is no stranger to the Emmanuel campus. Wilson attended Emmanuel from 2016-2020 and played varsity basketball here. After earning his MBA from Mercer University, Marcus returned to Emmanuel as a member of the Residence Life staff in 2021. Marcus also serves Emmanuel as an adjunct instructor.
In his new role within Emmanuel Online, Marcus will connect with prospective and current distance education students to guide them through the application/registration process and give them ongoing tips and advice on how to be successful in the program.
WHAT SETS EMMANUEL ONLINE APART?
Larry β βFor me the most immediate difference is the personal attention Emmanuel distance learning students receive. Mega-universities may have well developed distance ed programs, but a lot less personalization. Because of the size of our classes and Emmanuelβs focus β not only in teaching, but across the spectrum, weβre able to offer a much more hands-on and engaged approach to learning.β
Marcus β βWhen students register at Emmanuel, they know from the people they meet that theyβre wanted and valued. We really want them to be here, theyβre not just a number or an enrollment goal, we care about the students. I think every single person weβve talked to has felt that. Itβs a part of our mission as a university; we really love people and want the best for them. Everyone Iβve known who has come through the program β they enjoy the fact that they have people who are like advocates who care about their success and help them grow.β
WHATS NEW AT EMMANUEL ONLINE?
Larry β βThis fall weβre beginning graduate programs in Ministry and Divinity led by Dr. Mike Stewart. This will provide an opportunity for full-time pastors and people who are not able to attend a traditional college setting to continue their graduate studies in the biblical arena.
Another thing weβre still developing in our partnership with Free Chapel College which has brought us several new and exciting students β weβre excited to keep growing that partnership.
Weβre building on the established distance learning programs already set in place by Dr. Sharon Synan and Dr. Matt Cawthorn, as well as by the graduate coordinators and distance learning faculty. Marcus and I are looking forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for Emmanuel Distance Learning, and especially for our students.β
