Friday night, CPE 3rd-6th grade girls got the fun opportunity to cheer alongside the varsity squad at the varsity football game. They worked hard last week at their clinic and did a fantastic job on Friday evening.

Just a reminder.

🎉 We are proud to celebrate an incredible achievement at Clinton Prairie Elementary!

Our 2025-2026 3rd grade students earned a 95.6% pass rate on the 2026 IREAD-3 assessment, the highest pass rate in Clinton County and well above the Indiana state average of 88.7%.

This success reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff, the support of our families, and the strong literacy foundation built from Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

Congratulations to our students and teachers on this outstanding accomplishment! 📚❤️🖤

Below is a message from our school nurse/athletic trainer, Laura Harrison with some important information.

Welcome Back!

My name in Laura Harrison and I am Clinton Prairie’s School Nurse and Athletic Trainer. This is my 6th year as the School Nurse and I have been the Athletic Trainer for decades!
This year I would like to start sending out multiple newsletters or reminders to parents/guardians concerning upcoming events, clinics and just an overall synopsis of criteria that I incorporate in the nurse’s office.
As the school year officially begins in 3 days, I would like to share some important health and clinic information.

Asthma
If your child has asthma, please provide the school with an Asthma Action Plan from their healthcare provider. If you would like them to carry an inhaler with them during school, a Self-Administer Medication Form needs to be filled out by their healthcare provider. The form is in the nurse’s office or I can email it to you.

Medications
If your child will be taking prescribed medication at school, you must drop off the medication in the original, labeled container. A Medication Authorization form must be completed and signed. If your child has medication that is to be given as needed, that also requires the medicine in the original, labeled container and a PRN Medication Authorization form completed and signed.
If you would like over the counter medicines such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen administered to your child the Student Health Form (previously sent out) must be filled out, signed and submitted online.
I will be available during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday until 6 pm or so as well as during Back to School night for you to check in medication and fill out the forms.

Health Care Plans
Please provide the nurse’s office with any updated health care plans or information about new diagnoses so we can best support your child while they are at school. If food allergies are present in your child please provide the nurse’s office with documentation from your healthcare provider. This information may be shared with the appropriate cafeteria staff and teachers. If an Epi Pen is provided this also falls under the PRN Medication Authorization form guidelines. If you have any questions concerning your child’s healthcare while at school, please reach out to the nurse’s office or administration.

Immunizations
Immunization letters were sent out through email in the third week of July to parents/guardians of children who were delinquent on immunizations or needed an updated exemption form. It is imperative that your child either be current on their vaccines or have a signed exemption form on file in the nurse’s office. Failure to do so will result in your child not being allowed to return to school after a set date. This is a state law. The letters that were sent out earlier outline multiple venues to obtain either the vaccines or an exemption. Please refer to that information. Clinton Prairie will host the Clinton County Health Department on August 31, 2026 for a vaccination clinic. Prior registration is required by simply calling the nurse’s office. Registration MUST be completed by August 16, 2026. Packets will be distributed for signature after that.

Dental Check Ups
Clinton Prairie has partnered with School Smiles Dental to offer our students dental exams and care. Please refer to the school website for more information and sign up forms. If you are interested please fill out the form and return to the nurse’s office.

Please remember that your child should not attend school if the following symptoms are present:
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Fever over 100 degrees
Eyes that are red, watery, and itchy with purulent discharge

One rule that will be enforced is the 24 hr. rule. It states that your child may NOT return to school unless they have been vomit, diarrhea free or fever free without using medicine for 24 hours. This will be strictly enforced. You will be called to pick your child up at school.

Dates to Remember
Aug 16: Deadline to sign up for Immunization clinic to be held at Clinton Prairie August 31

September 26: School Smiles Dental check up
October 6: Vision screens with Lions Club – Grades 3-5-8 and new students

I hope you find this communication informative and it answers questions you may have. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Laura Harrison, RN, LAT, ATC
