Butch Carl Obituary

Butch Carl, 79, husband of Darlene Hayes Carl, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025. He was born in Lexington on December 25, 1945 to the late Ernest Dunlap and Elzabeth Reed Carl. Butch was Head of Security for Wasley Village, Former Chief of Police in Woodford County, and a member of Buford Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Greg (Sherry) Carl and Missy Carl, both of Versailles; his grandchildren, Savannah (David) Hutchinson and Miranda Carl (Skyler); and his great-grandchildren, Liam Hutchinson and Greyson Hutchinson.

Joseph Mack Smith, 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on October 23, 2025. He was born on December 9, 1946, in Louisville, the son of Charles Edward and Eudora Taylor Whitaker Smith.

Joe is survived by his wife, Carol Ann (Carter) Smith; his daughter, Jennifer L. Smith; his son, Matthew C. Smith (Misty); his grandchildren, Lillian and Samuel Smith; his brother, Charles T. Smith (Debbie); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe proudly served four years in the United States Air Force as a Chaplain’s Assistant during the Vietnam War era. Following his military service, he began a distinguished career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, retiring after more than 28 years as a Special Agent. He was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI.

A lifelong learner, Joe earned degrees from Bellevue University and DePaul University and received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Louisville.

He was deeply devoted to his faith and community, serving as a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and the former Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Joe was also a member and former minister with the St. Joseph of Cupertino Lay Franciscans at Mt. St. Francis, Indiana, and a graduate of the first Lay Ministry Formation class for the Archdiocese of Louisville.

Joe was a musician, an avid reader, and loved to travel. In retirement, he volunteered at Norton Children’s Medical Center (Brownsboro), continuing his lifelong commitment to service.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernadette Catholic Church on Monday, November 10 at 11 a.m. with a meal for family and friends to follow.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Louisville Free Public Library, in care of The Library Foundation.

Would anyone knoow what the football W/L record was for the 1964 football team?
What about the 1964/65 bsketball team? I remember that they only lost two games, both to the old Lexington Dunbar team (when it was downtown)

I won’t ever post all of my classmates who are attending our 60 year reunion but I can say we just exceeded the number who attended our last reunion in 2015! Way to go committee!

We mailed invitations to the nearly 50 classmates that we did not have an email for the first week of September. We are beginning to get some reservations, some regrets and some "undeliverables" from the USPS. Below are some family photoraphs from classmate Joe Mack Smith. Joe graduated Saint Leo's elementary in my 8th grade class of 1961 and WCHS with the class of 1965. Joe had a long career in the FBI and lives in Louisville. He will not be able to attend our class reunion due to health issues, but he sent us these family photographs for us to enjoy.
