The Crossing is unique in so many ways, but one of our favorite parts of each day is the 30 minutes we set aside for what we call “Family Time.” 💛

Family Time is where we talk about the hard topics, tackle the hot topics, build employability skills, play games, and simply talk about life. It’s a time for students to be real, ask questions, encourage one another, and grow together. There are plenty of laughs, sometimes a few tears, and always meaningful conversations and lessons learned. 💭

On Tuesdays, we split the boys and girls for Family Time. This week, the girls were paired up, given a canvas and some paint, and challenged to paint each other! 🎨

No student can focus on classes or build their employability skills on an empty stomach. At the Crossing High School, nutrition shouldn't be a barrier to a student's education or well-being, yet many of our kids face food insecurity every day.

That’s where our community comes in.

We’re launching our Food Fund Campaign to ensure every single student receives a warm, nutritious meal—no stress, no stigma. When you support the Lunch Fund, you aren't just buying food; you're providing the focus, energy, and care our students need to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

✨ Student Spotlight: Makana ✨

Makana is a junior at the Crossing High School, and if you know her, you know she brings plenty of personality wherever she goes! She loves playing volleyball and soccer, is absolutely obsessed with Sprite 🥤, and tacos are her favorite food! 🌮 She’s also secretly a math whiz. 🤓➗📚

Makana joined the Crossing near the end of the 2024–2025 school year, and we have had the incredible privilege of watching her transform. Before coming, Makana struggled in public school, including frequent suspensions and fights, while also navigating significant mental health challenges. When she first arrived, she was extremely withdrawn and wouldn’t even look at people. But over time, we watched her begin to grow, gain confidence, and truly come into her own. Today, she is social, makes friends with everyone, and isn’t afraid to let her goofy personality shine! 🤪

Makana says the teachers at the Crossing have made the biggest difference because she feels that they genuinely love her, hear her, and see her. She hasn’t been to a mental health treatment center in a year and hasn’t been arrested in two years—two incredible milestones that speak to just how far she has come.

We are SO proud of Makana and the growth we’ve seen in her. We can’t wait to see what this next chapter holds and all that she will accomplish! Keep shining, Makana! We’re cheering you on! 💛👏🏼

Hello, I’m Cadence! I’ve been at the Crossing for about two years. I am currently in my senior year. I am going to college next year for business management and finance. I am also this year’s new marketing intern. I will be working alongside Chloe, and will take over once she graduates in December. I can’t wait to start!

Introducing one of this year’s marketing interns

Hello Everyone my name is Chloe! I am this year’s Marketing intern. I was last semester’s as well. This is my 2nd year at the Crossing and I will be graduating in December. I plan on going to college for a different major but marketing and graphic design is my second major. I enjoy doing photography on the side as well and I’m excited and looking forward to this year and to be apart of the team!
