Our philosophy embraces an understanding of each intellectually disabled person as an individual who desires meaningful activity, success, friendships and acceptance. Each individual is gently urged to develop his or her skills and talents in all areas of life, including education at any age. We believe the emotional problems that often occur as a result of frustration can create a handicapping effect – an effect that can produce fear of failure, loss of self-esteem, loneliness and isolation. We believe a special residential community that offers the opportunity for continuing education, work, companionship, recreation and social interaction with friends can present opportunities that might just make dreams come true. We believe in an atmosphere of acceptance. The foundation of such an aim is to see each special needs student as a person who can learn and to provide motivational programming for the expression of skills and talents. Individual goals are the avenue to meeting individual needs; they change as the individual changes. Evening and weekend activities include dancing, performing and attending concerts, hayrides, table games, movies and local community events. We believe that a parent or guardian, in seeking an environment for his special needs student, knows the limitations of society when it comes to opportunity and acceptance.
