Some students know exactly where they belong — and for Kaitlyn, that place is clearly around animals. 🐴

I’m so excited to congratulate Kaitlyn McCoy on her decision to attend Midway University where she will major in Equine Rehabilitation and Pre-Veterinary Studies!

Kaitlyn’s love for animals, compassion, and dedication to helping others made this path feel like such a natural fit for her. Equine rehab is an incredibly hands-on and specialized field that combines science, problem-solving, and a whole lot of heart — and I have no doubt she is going to thrive in it.

One thing I always tell students: success in college and career starts with finding the right fit. Kaitlyn found a program that aligns beautifully with both her interests and her future goals, and that matters.

Not sure if your teacher is writing you a glowing recommendation…
or politely warning colleges about you? 😬

Here’s the reality:
Most students will NEVER see their recommendation letters.

Which means…
👉 what your teacher says about you matters A LOT
👉 and you don’t get to control it after you ask

So before you request that letter:
✔ Show up
✔ Participate
✔ Be respectful
✔ Build an actual relationship

Because “he's a nice kid and did his work” is not getting anyone into a selective college.

📌 Make sure the person writing your letter actually likes you—and has something meaningful to say.

Teacher recommendation letters are one of the most underrated parts of the college application.

They are one of the only places where someone else gets to tell colleges who your student really is.

Grades tell them what you earned.
Activities tell them what you did.
👉 Teacher recs tell them how you show up in a classroom.

Do you participate?
Do you push through challenges?
Do you lead?
Do you care?

A strong recommendation reinforces everything.
A generic one? White noise.

If your student is aiming for selective colleges, this matters more than most families realize.

But not in the way most people think.

You don’t need a fancy title like “President” or “Captain” to show leadership.

Colleges are looking for students who:
✔ Take initiative
✔ Step up when something needs to be done
✔ Influence others in a positive way
✔ Actually do something—not just hold a title

Real examples of leadership I see every year:
– Speak up with ideas
– Take ownership of projects
– Help others succeed
– Be someone people can rely on

Leadership = impact, not a title.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see every year:
Students think their essay needs to impress.

It doesn’t.

It needs to reveal:
Who you are. What you value. How you think.

Because the goal isn’t to sound impressive—
it’s to make an admissions rep feel like they just met you.

And that’s the difference between an essay they skim…
and one they remember.
