We’re excited to welcome several new educators to the Frankenmuth School District for the 2026–27 school year! Each brings unique experiences, strengths, and perspectives to our schools, and we are looking forward to the contributions they will make to our students and school community.

🦅 Kaydee Swafford joins Frankenmuth with five years of elementary teaching experience, including the past four years with Freeland Community School District. In addition to teaching first and second grades, Miss Swafford has served as an instructional technology coach and brings significant professional training in evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention.

🦅 Amaia McCurdy is a recent Saginaw Valley State University graduate with preparation in both elementary and K–12 special education. Miss McCurdy completed her student-teaching experiences at both List Elementary and Frankenmuth High School and brings experience in best practice strategies for supporting students across grade levels and learning needs.

🦅 Erick Hempel joins Frankenmuth Schools as an SVSU resident teacher, bringing experience working with elementary-age students in after-school and summer programming as well as classroom field placements through his teacher preparation program. A 2021 Frankenmuth High School graduate, Erick’s performance in his program to date permits him to teach in his own classroom as he completes the experiential component of his degree in secondary history education. Mr. Hempel is especially interested in student-centered learning experiences that build critical thinking and help students engage with multiple perspectives.

🦅 Autumn Prescott Herta brings secondary English teaching experience from Kearsley Community Schools and as a long-term substitute with Goodrich Schools. A Saginaw Valley State University graduate in English with a history minor, Mrs. Herta brings experience using assessment data, building classroom community, and supporting students in research and literary analysis.

🦅 Laura Billow joins Frankenmuth Schools with experience as a school counselor serving students from early elementary through high school. Miss Billow most recently served students in grades 7–12 at Perry Middle and High School and brings experience in academic planning, postsecondary preparation, and student social-emotional support.

🦅 Ryan Liening comes to education following a professional career in accounting, business, and sales analysis and has spent the past two years working as a substitute teacher throughout Washtenaw County. Mr. Liening’s recent experience includes several long-term assignments, including work with Unified and special education students at Saline High School.

🦅 Cory Duquette brings more than a decade of secondary mathematics teaching experience, most recently at Carrollton High School. Mr. Duquette has taught all levels of high school math, and his background experience includes developing mathematics curriculum and MTSS supports, enhancing advanced mathematics coursework, mentoring new teachers, and serving on building and district leadership teams.

Today the Tri-Valley Conference kicked off the year with High School Principals, Athletic Directors, and Superintendents from around the conference meeting at Hemlock High School to collaborate on plans for the upcoming athletic and academic events seasons.

The FSD was well represented with (R to L) FHS Principal Mr. David Jaworski, Athletic Director Mrs. Julie Felten, and District MTSS Coordinator Mr. Justin Diegel among the attendees.

We’re gearing up for a great year and excited for all that lies ahead! GO EAGLES!

This morning, EFR Teacher Mr. Luke Kanine was recognized along with the other MI Regional Teachers of the Year at the State Board of Education meeting in Lansing. EFR Principal Mr. Josh Chase and FSD Superintendent JoLynn Clark were invited to celebrate alongside Mr. Kanine and received a recognition plaque to be displayed at EFR.

It was a pleasure to welcome members of the Frankenmuth High School Class of 1976 back to campus today! We enjoyed giving a tour of the high school as they returned to celebrate a very special milestone.

This weekend, 75 classmates are gathering in Frankenmuth to celebrate their 50th class reunion. It’s always wonderful to see alumni reconnect, share memories, and see how the district has grown.

Welcome home, Class of 1976! We hope you have a fantastic reunion weekend. ❤️🦅🩶

Staff summer learning continues! 😎

Today, members of the List Elementary team attended Day 1 of the AI & Media Literacy Leadership Collaborative at the Saginaw ISD.

As artificial intelligence continues to transform education, we’re committed to staying ahead of the curve by learning how to use these tools responsibly, ethically, and effectively to support teaching, learning, communication, and leadership. We also explored the growing importance of media literacy and how to help students develop the skills to think critically about the information they encounter every day.

We’re excited to bring new ideas back to List Elementary as we continue preparing our students for the future while supporting our incredible staff.

Thank you to the Saginaw Intermediate School District for hosting this valuable learning opportunity.
