Reed Academy serves boys with a variety of learning levels and neurological, intellectual, developmental, and mental health diagnoses such as:
• Autism Spectrum Disorders/Aspergers/PDD
• Behavioral/Oppositional Defiant Disorders
• Learning Challenges/Disorders.
• Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorders
• Mood and/or Bi-Polar Disorder, Depression
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
• Tourette’s Syndrome
THERAPY - Students meet weekly with highly-qualified and experienced family therapist individually and several times a week in group therapy. MEDICATIONS - Students at Reed maintain their own doctors, however we have a registered nurse practitioner on staff as well as a consulting psychiatrist to ensure that the medical portion of each child’s treatment plan is followed and monitored closely. ACADEMICS - Reed Academy’s academic program is based on each child’s Individual Educational Plan while also following the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the Common Core.
• Small class sizes of 4/5 students to one certified special education teacher, ensure that the behavioral and educational needs of each student are always met with care and compassion.
• Our small, home-like program allows for the strengthening of adaptive daily living skills and social skill development to be constant areas of focus.
• Extra hours in the afternoon are dedicated to training in appropriate independent play and structured socializing.
• The longer school day is academically enriched and offers many activities such as homework help, watercolor class, cooking, reading clubs, social thinking/pragmatics class, and outdoor physical activity. SUMMER/EXTENDED YEAR - Students love our summer program as it offers all of the fun and excitement of a traditional summer camp with activities such as swimming, fishing, a Wheelock Family Theater workshop, and outdoor sports in addition to strengthening their academic skills.
• The academic enriched, yet camp-like program helps to maintain structure and prevent regression that may occur during summer months.
• Summer openings are available to all surrounding towns and welcomes students who would like to exclusively attend the summer portion of our program.

ASSESSMENTS - Reed Academy works with school districts to provide 45 day assessments as needed for those having trouble accessing the curriculum in their current school setting.
• Students are integrated into our academic program while accessing therapeutic support and behavioral strategies.
• The funding school districts are able to use the academy’s campus to provide necessary testing space.
• At the conclusion of the 45 days, Reed staff will work with the parents and funding town to discuss appropriate interventions, treatment, and placement. Our belief is that a strong connection between the students and staff can allow for the greatest growth. Our staff is committed to making each student and their families feel safe, understood, heard, respected and valued.
