A capstone project for our 6th graders is planning a senior trip. They decide on a social justice topic to research, choose a location, plan the transportation, lodging, itinerary, and create a budget. This year's seniors are just returning from their trip to NYC where they chose to focus on discrimination in the performing arts. They toured the Lincoln Center, the Museum of Broadway, the NY Library for the Performing Arts, and an inclusive theater company. Of course they also caught a show and visited some iconic Big Apple stores!

Thanks to for hosting a fabulous book fair last week! Our kids visited the fair to make wish lists, families came to Night at the Book Fair, and teachers were able to grow their classroom libraries. And many thanks to SMPA for all the coordination and organization!

What are the golden beads? They're a hands-on material made up of single golden beads, bars made up of ten beads, squares composed of ten bars, and cubes made of ten squares. The beads can be used in a variety of mathematical lessons including an introduction to the decimal system, place value, and basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), making these abstract concepts concrete and enticing. Come visit Summit and learn more about the classic Montessori materials we have in our classrooms!

At Friday Morning Meeting last week, teachers, students, and parents shared with the school community the meaning behind the holiday of Diwali, how they celebrate it, and even brought in objects and clothing that they include in their celebrations. It was a beautiful moment of community, learning, and light!
