All I can say is thank you! Thank you to our ACV community. Last night's open house was a fantastic success. We had packed kitchens all evening while families and students came in and out snacking, chatting, and snacking some more. I enjoyed speaking with everyone and if I missed getting to talk to you, please know your presence was so appreciated! Your ACV students worked so hard and I know they loved sharing that with you. From students in the FACS program, thanks again for your support! Check out all the amazing options we had to offer.

What are you doing tomorrow evening?? If you said heading to ACV open house with a student close to you, we'll see you there! All day today and tomorrow students in every single FACS class has been and will be putting together a fantastic spread for our ACV family and friends! We will have dips, ice creams, salty, savory, sweet, and more. Stop in the FACS kitchens to see and taste what the students have been preparing. We can't wait to share our program with you.

Ending this busy week with another teamwork Friday. Using a variety of quick activities, we focused on peer encouragment, support, identifying and exploiting our strengths for team success. From unwrapping Hershey kisses with oven mitts on, to penny and cup stacking, among many other fun activities, we are strengthening our real world skills with every interaction and all forms of communication. I see a lot of smiles in these pictures but it can't be that we had fun learning... can it??😜

7th and 8th graders in Everyday Living learned about basic car maintenance and changing tires this week. We even went outside to join our fantastic maintenance crew doing hands on work changing a flat, checking tire pressure, oil, and fluids. It was a great week!

Fajita day! 8th grade made fajitas and did a great job practicing their new knife skills while doing it.

These last 2 weeks have been focused on knives, different kinds, different jobs they can do, safety rules, how to care for them,and different cuts. Today we had our knife "final". Each team made honey garlic chicken stir fry. We diced, minced, chopped, and cut a nice julienne. Best tasting final ever. If only every test could be this good. 🤣😉🔪🔪🍽🥕🫑🥦🧄

Today FACS 1 students continued our teamwork Fridays with a new challenge, to save Sam! Each team had a gummy worm who needed saving. His boat (the cup) had capsized and his life vest (the peach ring) had drifted. They had to get Sam into his life vest and get his boat flipped around and safely deposit Sam inside.... without touching him. They only had 1 paper clip each. This week's focus was truly on strategy and problem solving. So proud of this group, they have been proving wrong those who say young people are lacking these skills. I see them getting stronger every week!

Today was our very first fundraiser lunch of the year! FACS 2 students stepped up to plan, budget for, prep, and serve a lunch for over 30 staff. After sending out a survey they decided on ham or turkey and bacon bagels covered with cheddar cheese and all the trimmings. On the side they added chips and our famous homemade spinach artichoke dip. Do you want to try some of the FACS programs' amazing dishes? Sop by the night of open house with your student and we will hook you up!

Happy Constitution day! Did you know that Sept 17 is the day we celebrate the signing of the US constitution? ACV teachers, staff, and students spent the day learning everything there was to know about the constitution! The FACS department was not to be outdone! We discussed foods they may have eaten while deciding the outline for our country's future as well as the differences in foods and food preparation then vs now. We also made an adapted version of a popular recipe of the time, apple pandowdy. This was our first food lab of the year and while simple (and hot) it felt great to get everybody moving. today!

Facs 2 welcomed back our littles to the high school today! We played a getting to know you game, had some ice cold water to cool us off, and headed inside to do a little coloring. Both the bigs and littles had a great time learning about each other. We are already excited to get together in October! Thanks to Ms. Fox and Mrs. Clawson and the aides for sharing their students with us.
