UPDATE ON SCHEDULE FOR TOMORROW (Tuesday 12/9/2025)

JCPS will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

All students and staff should report to schools and campuses on a two-hour delay.

We have been advised that the potential of black ice is possible tonight through Tuesday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions. To allow for better road visibility for our bus drivers, students, and staff drivers, we will be on a two-hour delay tomorrow. We encourage all travelers, especially our student drivers, to travel with caution.

School nutrition will serve breakfast upon students’ arrival. Early morning care will open two hours later than the normal start time.

Thank you for your understanding as we work with local safety and emergency officials to ensure that we are all safe during these inclement weather events.

Due to the forecast of inclement weather and per the guidance of local emergency and safety officials, Johnston County Public Schools will be closed for all students tomorrow, Monday, December 8, 2025, as well as all extracurricular activities. The district will operate under Condition 3 of the inclement weather plan.

"I am beyond proud of my kids and all the kids from across Johnston County who were a part of this year's All-County Honor Choir! They all did a phenomenal job putting on Wednesday nights performance at our high school. Thank you to our clinician, Mr. Andrew Childers, for showing our kids how to bring out the best of their musical gifts! Thank you also to the Administration of South Johnston High School for allowing us to host and allowing me to represent our school family. Thanks also to the SJHS custodial teams and JCPS Facilities management for all your hard work in helping make the evening so special and keeping our students safe! The smiles on these students faces says it all. Thank you also to all the choral teachers that I have the honor and privilege of working alongside teaching these students the wonders of music and also teaching me to a better teacher than I ever thought possible. You all are wonderful and I'm blessed to have been accepted into your family. " - Mr. Whitaker

Come out tomorrow night for the JCPS All County Honor Chorus and Art show! The Art show opens at 6:30 and the concert begins at 7pm in the SJHS Auditorium.

We are so excited about the High School All-County Honors Art Gallery Exhibit and Choral performance tomorrow! This afternoon's rehearsals and set up are going well! Thankful to all of our students, teachers, and volunteers!

Come out tomorrow at 6:30pm to view the gallery and 7:00pm to hear the choral performance at South Johnston High School.

THEATRE POST: Year 2 of the Make-up activity was a success!! Once again the students enjoyed it and had so much fun with it!! They all did a great job making these wounds look as real as we could get them. Mr. Whitaker forgot to grab a pic of himself with the class so a selfie will have to suffice.

What a fun day having the Campbell University Choir and Campbell Voices groups with us as their first stop on their tour! (Sorry I didn't get the whole University Choir in a shot). My Chorus classes enjoyed hearing them sing and we enjoyed singing the Ramos arrangement of "O Magnum Mysterium" and "Fruitcake!", 2 of our songs for the upcoming Christmas at South Choral Concert on Dec. 4th!! It was so awesome to see SJHS Choir Alum Matthew Prescott again as well!!

Congratulations Dr. Pearce! We are so proud to have a former SJHS Trojan as our Superintendent!!

JCPS is proud to announce that during a special session meeting on June 17, 2025, the Johnston County Board of Education meeting, the board voted to appoint Dr. David Pearce as Superintendent, effective July 1, 2025.

Dr. Pearce is a native of Johnston County and has served the district in many capacities, for many years! He brings a strong background in educational leadership and a deep commitment to student achievement, staff development, and community engagement.

Dr. Pearce has served as an educator for 23 years in many capacities, including Area Assistant Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative and Auxiliary Services, and Assistant Superintendent for Johnston County Public Schools.
