Something awesome comes this way from the far east to Arizona... and from Arizona we will travel to Japan in return!
Building Bridges Between Arizona, Japan, and the World - The Inspiration Academy, our K–12 private school here in Arizona, continues to grow not only as a place of academic learning, but as a living bridge between cultures, traditions, and meaningful international relationships.
We are honored that The Inspiration Academy, together with LABO Japan and 4-H through the University of Arizona, we will once again be hosting a Japanese junior chaperone for three weeks. This is more than a simple exchange visit. It is an opportunity for our students, families, and school community to experience Japanese culture through direct friendship, shared daily life, and the kind of personal connection that no textbook can fully provide.
This work connects deeply with the larger mission shared between The Inspiration Academy, Yakushin Publications, and Yotsume Dojo. Through Yakushin Publications USA and Japan, we continue to preserve, study, translate, and share Japan’s historical martial, medical, spiritual, and cultural traditions. Through Yotsume Dojo, those traditions are not only researched, but lived, practiced, and passed forward through direct training and sincere relationship. Through The Inspiration Academy, these same values become part of a broader educational mission: helping young people see the world with discipline, respect, curiosity, courage, and cultural understanding. "Not all education happens in a classroom!"
This November, my son and I will once again return to Japan for most of the month. During this trip, we will be meeting and training with Yakushin Publications partners, as well as with my martial art and medical art teachers in Japan. These journeys are not vacations. They are part of a lifelong commitment to study, transmission, relationship, and preservation. Each visit strengthens the living connection between our work in the United States and the teachers, schools, temples, archives, and cultural communities in Japan that continue to guide us.
Looking ahead, we are also preparing for something truly special. In May of 2027, The Inspiration Academy will lead a 14-day student journey to Japan and beyond. This educational trip will take students across Honshu, Japan’s main island, while also reaching Hokkaido, Kyushu, and a location in Korea. Our students will not only see famous places. They will experience history, language, food, traditional culture, modern Japan, spiritual sites, regional identity, and the deep human value of stepping outside one’s own familiar world.
For us, education does not stop at the classroom door. It continues in the dojo, in the temple, in the archive, in the home of a host family, on the train platform, in the quiet conversation with a teacher, and in the moment a young student realizes that the world is much larger and more connected than they once imagined.
The partnership between The Inspiration Academy, Yakushin Publications USA and Japan, and Yotsume Dojo represents a shared vision: to preserve tradition, build cultural understanding, strengthen international friendship, and give the next generation meaningful access to the living spirit of Japan.
We are proud to continue building this bridge from Arizona to Japan, from past to future, and from study to lived experience.

アリゾナ州にある私たちのK–12私立学校、The Inspiration Academyは、単なる学びの場としてだけでなく、文化、伝統、そして意義ある国際的な関係を結ぶ「生きた架け橋」として、さらに成長を続けています。
このたび、The Inspiration Academyは、LABO Japan、そしてアリゾナ大学を通じた4-Hと共に、日本からのジュニア・シャペロンを3週間お迎えすることとなり、大変光栄に思っております。これは単なる交流訪問ではありません。私たちの生徒、家族、そして学校コミュニティにとって、直接の友情、日常生活の共有、そして教科書だけでは決して得ることのできない人と人とのつながりを通して、日本文化を体験する貴重な機会となります。
この取り組みは、The Inspiration Academy、Yakushin Publications、そしてYotsume Dojoが共有する、より大きな使命とも深く結びついています。Yakushin Publications USAおよびJapanを通じて、私たちは日本の歴史的な武道、医術、精神文化、そして伝統文化を保存し、研究し、翻訳し、伝えていく活動を続けています。Yotsume Dojoを通じて、これらの伝統は単に研究されるだけでなく、実際に生きられ、稽古され、誠実な関係と直接の修行を通して次世代へと受け継がれていきます。そしてThe Inspiration Academyを通じて、これらと同じ価値観は、より広い教育的使命の一部となります。それは、若い世代が規律、敬意、好奇心、勇気、そして文化的理解を持って世界を見る力を育てることです。
今年11月、私の息子と私は再び日本へ戻り、ほぼ一か月にわたって滞在する予定です。この旅では、Yakushin Publicationsの日本におけるパートナーの方々とお会いし、また私の武道および医術の先生方のもとで稽古と学びを深めてまいります。これらの旅は、単なる休暇ではありません。学び、伝承、関係、そして保存に対する生涯にわたる取り組みの一部です。日本を訪れるたびに、私たちのアメリカでの活動と、私たちを導いてくださる日本の先生方、流派、寺院、資料館、そして文化的共同体との生きたつながりが、さらに強められていきます。
さらに先を見据え、私たちは本当に特別な取り組みの準備も進めています。2027年5月、The Inspiration Academyは、生徒たちを対象とした14日間の日本および周辺地域への教育旅行を実施する予定です。この旅では、日本の本州を巡るだけでなく、北海道、九州、そして韓国の一地域にも足を延ばします。生徒たちは有名な場所をただ見学するだけではありません。歴史、言語、食文化、伝統文化、現代の日本、精神的な場所、地域ごとの特色、そして自分たちの慣れ親しんだ世界の外へ一歩踏み出すことの深い人間的価値を体験することになります。
私たちにとって、教育は教室の扉の前で終わるものではありません。教育は、道場の中にあり、寺院の中にあり、資料館の中にあり、ホストファミリーの家の中にあり、駅のホームの上にあり、先生との静かな会話の中にあり、そして若い生徒が「世界は自分が想像していたよりもはるかに大きく、深くつながっている」と気づくその瞬間にも存在しています。
The Inspiration Academy、Yakushin Publications USAおよびJapan、そしてYotsume Dojoのパートナーシップは、共通の理念を表しています。それは、伝統を保存し、文化的理解を育み、国際的な友情を強め、次世代に日本の生きた精神へ触れる意義ある機会を提供することです。
