🏌️ What do Veridus, 3Rivers Federal Credit Union, Hancock Health, Family Leisure, GBC, Stock Yards Bank & Trust, and AECOM have in common?

They represent different industries, serve different customers, and bring different expertise to Hancock County—but they share one important commitment:

They believe Mt. Vernon kids are worth investing in. 💜💛

These community-minded organizations have already stepped forward as sponsors of the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation’s Joel Young Memorial Chip In Fore Kids outing. Their support is more than a logo on a sign—it helps fund classroom innovation, student wellbeing, scholarships, workforce development, hands-on STEM learning, and career-readiness opportunities.

They understand that the students learning in Mt. Vernon classrooms today will become the employees, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, skilled-trades workers, and community leaders of tomorrow.

Now we’re asking: Will your business join them?

Four school districts. Four education foundations. One shared commitment to Hancock County’s children and future.

I’m honored to share a guest column I penned for the Greenfield Daily Reporter, “It Takes More Than a School District to Educate a Community.

What makes this especially meaningful is that it was signed by the leaders of all four Hancock County public education foundations— Central School Foundation, Eastern Hancock Education Foundation, New Palestine Education Foundation, and Mt Vernon Education Foundation. Although we serve different districts, Ginny Hoffman Brown, Eric Schilling, Trisha Ennis, and I share one purpose: supporting students, strengthening educators, and connecting our schools with the communities surrounding them.

Education cannot rest solely on the shoulders of our school districts. It takes families, businesses, nonprofits, local leaders, and caring community members working together. When we invest in education, we are not only helping students succeed today—we are building Hancock County’s future workforce, leadership, and quality of life.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read and share the column—and then consider the role each of us can play in educating and strengthening our community.

Honoring the Memory of William “Bill” Ambler

The family of William “Bill” Ambler, father of Mt. Vernon Education Foundation Executive Director Renee Oldham, and her sister Rhonda Hagenhoff has asked that memorial gifts be made to the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Bill was a proud veteran and GM retiree who valued hard work, loved animals, and believed strongly in the importance of the trades and making sure children had what they needed.

To honor those things that mattered to him, gifts made in Bill’s memory will be designated to support Mt. Vernon students in areas that reflect his values:

• Trade and career certifications — helping students earn credentials and skills that can lead directly to future opportunities
• Student meal needs — helping ensure students experiencing a need have access to food
• Dog- and animal-related educational projects — honoring Bill’s lifelong love of animals through student learning opportunities

For the Ambler family, these memorial gifts are an opportunity to turn the things Bill cared about into opportunities for young people for years to come.

Donations may be made at www.mtvernonfoundation.org. Please include “In Memory of William ‘Bill’ Ambler” with your gift. Checks can be mailed to 1806 W State Rd 234, Fortville, Indiana 46040

The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation is deeply honored to be entrusted with carrying forward a small piece of Bill’s legacy through the students we serve.

A life remembered. Values carried forward. Opportunities created for the next generation.
