Have you been thinking about how to approach the 2026-2027 school year? City on a Hill is a ministry effort of FBC Fortuna that works with parents to assist with the education of their children by hosting weekly co-op classes.

This year we are introducing three new classes: Intermediate Logic, Introduction to Biblical Hebrew, and IEW's People and Places in our Community. For the class list, see below.

If you have a young instrumental musician in your family, they do not have to be a City on a Hill student to participate! Participation is for children K - 12, who are learning to perform a piece or tune prepared for an instrument. Please submit your child's name, skill level, kind of instrument, and title of piece/tune to [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is March 17. Space is limited!

Would you like to learn more on why and how to train your child's heart? Join us for our next Parent Training Class on March 10 at 6:30 p.m. at 1976 Scenic Dr., Fortuna. Pastor John will lead us through a biblical and practical child rearing book by William Gouge (1578-1653). We will learn how "shaping the heart" is a biblical precept.

Pastor Jon Szabo joined City on a Hill at its founding. When he is not working as a State Highway Engineer, he is busy teaching various science-related classes on Tuesdays. His classes push students to think beyond the author of the textbook, with discussions about modern technology and theory. On Sundays, you will often see him teaching Bible Survey classes at church.

Pastor John Carter has a passion for Classical Christian Education. In 2021, he initiated the idea to have a Classical Christan Co-op in our Humboldt community. Since families do not all educate their children in the same way, he supports parents by hosting bi-monthly Parent Training Classes. We are thankful to God for providing us with a Christ-honoring, caring, passionate, and intelligent Administrator-teacher.
