May is Mental Health Month

I’m resharing this as we have entered the final term of the school year (here in the UK), the children are getting tired and we are heading into the school testing and exam period.

After school restraint collapse is real!

I would spend 6 hours in school
trying to conform. Concentrating so much more than my peers just to write a simple question, answer easy maths questions and fighting to make myself understood.

As soon as I walked through the door I would be loud and boisterous (not the timid Mikey that everyone at school knew).

My mum’s solution?

Open the back door come rain or shine and let me jump on my trampoline for at least 20 minutes. She would wait patiently until I had self regulated, was more chilled and was ready to tell her about my day.

I am not saying that this would work for everyone but it worked for me. We found what worked and went with it. 💙

Wow. Never in all my years of doing this have I come across a sponsor that I have felt THIS strongly about. It’s called tapouts and EVERY parent should pay attention to this. { } It’s preventative mental healthcare for kids. Kind of like pre-therapy so hopefully they won’t NEED therapy.

Pretty much every kid I know has had anxiety issues. Or depression. Or social problems. Did this exist when we were kids? I don’t remember my friends having these problems. So what’s causing it? Covid? Social media? All the pressure on kids these days? And how do we show our kids’ mental health the love it needs?

I fully believe tapouts can help. It's wayyy cheaper than therapy (like seriously, my jaw dropped), and it’s a fun way for kids to learn how to handle things like anxiety, sadness, anger, and social issues. Whether your kid is 4 or 16, tapouts has a group for them.

I’m gonna tell you a little more about it, but here’s the link in case you don’t want to hear me babble and just want to check it out. Because you do.

(Don’t forget to use the promo code!)

So when tapouts reached out to me, I asked if I could take a peek at one of their sessions (because I never want to push a product I don’t know), and they let me watch a past one. You guys, what I saw was AMAZING. It was a video call with 6 kids and a wonderful life coach. They all looked like they were having fun, while at the same time, they were learning VERY important coping skills.

In this session, the life coach started with an “emotions check-in,” and then taught the kids how to do box-breathing, an awesome way to calm yourself down when you’re feeling a big emotion. And it works!

The groups meet online once a week for 30 minutes, and the kids get points for participation that they can cash in for awesome prizes! And last but not least, the first session is FREE, and you get 15% off the program with the promo code babysideburns15. Woohoooo!!!

I’m telling you, go check out tapouts and take care of your kid’s mental health. Do you think mental health is as important as physical health? I do.

I do not have any personal experience with this company. I read this post and visited the website. I like the idea and definitely can see where this could benefit any child.
