Attendance matters, Lion Family! 🦁 Check out these important attendance procedures to help keep your student on track for a successful school year:

📱 How to Report an Absence:

Use ParentSquare

Call the main office

Submit a note within 3 school days

⚠️ Reminder: Messaging a teacher directly does NOT officially report an absence!

📝 Absence Notes & Guidelines:

Parent Notes: Up to 3 parent notes per school year are accepted to excuse absences.

5+ Consecutive Days: May require a doctor’s note to be excused.

Nurse Dismissals: A note is required for any additional days missed after being sent home by the nurse.

Early Dismissals: Always submit a parent or medical note upon returning, or the dismissal may be unexcused.

⚖️ Important Rules to Keep in Mind:

The 90% Rule: Students must attend at least 90% of the school year to earn course credit or a final grade (this includes both excused and unexcused absences).

State Truancy: 3 unexcused absences in 4 weeks requires a Truancy Prevention Plan. 10 unexcused absences in 6 months may lead to a truancy court referral.

We’re excited to welcome our wonderful grandparents and special guests to A.V. Cato Elementary for a special Grandparents Day Lunch! 👵👴❤️
📅 Friday, September 11th
🍎 Lunch will be during your grandchild’s regularly scheduled lunch time.
✨ Important reminders:
• All grandparents/guests must be listed in Skyward.
• Please bring a valid ID.
• Guests may bring a lunch or purchase an adult lunch for $5.40. Please scan the QR code if you are purchasing a lunch from the cafeteria.

💙 We are so thankful for our PTO! 💙

Our PTO met to talk about ways we can continue making things better for our school and our staff. They recently purchased a water purifier and an ice machine for our staff to enjoy! 🧊💧

They also recently purchased Skip-It toys for our students to use during PE! 🎉

We truly appreciate our PTO for listening to our staff, supporting our students, and always looking for ways to make a difference. We are so grateful for everything you do! ❤️👏

📚🦁 BUILD THE HABIT OF GOOD ATTENDANCE! 🦁📚

At A.V. Cato Elementary School, our campus goal is 96% daily attendance! 🎯

Every Day. Every Student. Every Opportunity.

Did you know that missing just 10% of the school year—about 2 days each month—can make it harder for children to learn to read and develop basic math skills? Too many absences can also impact students socially and academically, and being late to school can contribute to poor attendance.

💙 What can families do?
✔️ Establish a consistent bedtime and morning routine.
✔️ Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
✔️ Have a backup plan for getting to school when unexpected things happen.
✔️ Monitor your child's absences.
✔️ Schedule non-urgent appointments and trips when school is not in session whenever possible.
✔️ If your child is anxious about coming to school, reach out to their teacher, counselor, or another trusted adult for support.

What a fun way to start the day at AVC! ❤️💙

Our AVC students were greeted this morning by many of our amazing AVC alumni who are now Castleberry High School cheerleaders and football players! 🦁📣🏈

It’s always special to see our former students come back and connect with the younger Lions—and this morning, our football players were willing to put their strength to good use by helping push a truck that had broken down! 💪

We are so proud of our CHS Lions and will be cheering them on as they kick off their season tonight!

🎶 Learning is better together! 🎶

Our students are partnering up, learning from one another, and having fun making music! Our 1st graders are practicing scales, while our 3rd graders are learning simple melodies. 🎵

We love seeing their teamwork, confidence, and excitement as they learn together! 💕
