Protecting real books and libraries and librarians in FWISD will lead to increased literacy and wellbeing. What other guardrails would you recommend the BOM create for Dr. Licata so that FWISD does not become HISD2.0?

Twice displaced by the New Education System, librarian Brandie Dowda said if NES campuses use an honor system, there would be no way to track when a book goes in an and out of a library.Dowda, who left HISD for another school district, said she learned in January that her campus, Almeda Elementary School, would become NES.
In the latter half of May, her principal told her the district was going to remove center shelving from her library the next day, she said. With the help of Library Services, she moved the materials to the peripheral shelves.
Dowda was conducting class for third-graders when contractors came to remove the shelves, a sight she called "soul-crushing."
"I really want to emphasize that these changes that are happening with the libraries are not decisions happening at the campus level," Dowda said. "They are happening at the central office level, and principals are not really being given a choice."

Starting now, Texans have 30 days to submit online public comments on the proposed new social studies Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). It’s critical that we make our voices heard by submitting comments before the SBOE votes on final approval in June.

Instructions:

➡️ In the section where you’re asked to “Select one proposed SBOE rule action,” choose “Proposed New 19 TAC Chapter 113, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Social Studies, Subchapter A, Elementary, Subchapter B, Middle School, Subchapter C, High School, and Subchapter D, Other Social Studies Courses.”

According to the FWISD website: Those individuals desiring to make a public comment may sign-up by calling 817-814-1920 any time prior to 4:00 PM the day of the meeting. After this time, individuals may sign-up in person at the meeting until 5:20 PM.
