When staff members across UNT Health come together, meaningful connections can extend beyond the walls of their individual departments. That was the vision behind the inaugural TCOM Staff Engagement Committee, launched this year to foster collaboration, communication, recognition and engagement among staff across TCOM, the Departments of Public Health and Physician Assistant Studies, and the Clinical Practice Group.

The inaugural committee included Annie Mathew, Beth Lucy-Speidel, Ashley Gomez, Dahlia Gomez, Jessica Arroyo, Tiffany Gardner, Ashley Leon, Maya McMillian, Kimberly Rossiter and Lizbeth Rodriguez. In its first few months, the committee established the foundation for continued staff engagement and connection across the newly aligned colleges and programs.

We are also pleased to announce our newest members of the Staff Engagement Committee for the 2026-2027 year! Please join us in congratulating Holly Hennig, Nora Cantu, Alyssa Overbey, Esme Anaab, Marvis Orzek, Maya McMillian and Celeste Castorena 🎉

Thank you all for your willingness to step into your roles to continue building a unified and engaged staff culture here in TCOM. Congratulations!

Our friends at SteerFW recently held an impactful Civil Summit that addressed many burgeoning topics, and one of those was health. We were proud to see UNT Health Fort Worth's Dr. David Mason and TCOM alum Dr. Andrew Saverine on the panel discussing how different sectors of Fort Worth can continue to grow while improving the quality of life for all residents. Thank you for having us as part of this discussion!

From helping Feed the City to supporting members of our unhoused community, our Street Medicine Student Coalition has been crisscrossing our community. They packed donation kits, hosted the Glenwood Park Outreach, and created educational opportunities for students to learn more. Terrific work!

It’s been another record-breaking year for females at TCOM, and we are honored to celebrate Women in Medicine Month. We welcomed 147 women in our class of 2030, making it the 3rd-largest class size ever, right behind last year’s record-breaking 158 women. TCOM is leading the way for women in osteopathic medicine. We are excited to see the rise of women in health care continue.

Today, we celebrate the birthday of one of the best from TCOM, our Dean, Dr. Lisa Nash. She’s the first TCOM graduate to be Dean, an unwavering supporter of the osteopathic profession, our students, faculty, and staff, and all that we do. Happy birthday, Dr. Nash!

TCOM students conducted a study that found that the cancer screening gap among certain populations in DFW is wider than you think. Eight TCOM students, under the direction of Dr. Amany Hassan, published an article in the Journal of Community Health. The students Madeline Neff, Allison Powell, Kristina Kafle, Catalina Beltran, Sara Al-Sammarie, Melody Nguyen, Rafael do Valle, and Kristen Miguel conducted a study that shed light on the sociocultural barriers that influence cervical and breast cancer screening among Nepali and Bhutanese women in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Terrific work!

It is our honor to announce the winner of the 2026 TCOM Founders Award, Dr. John Bowling, and the Mary Luibel Service Award, Jay and Mimi Bonds. Our ROME program wasn’t built in one day, but it was Dr. Bowling's dedication to rural medicine that made it what it is today. The Bonds represent the epitome of who we want our future physicians to be. We can’t wait to honor them at our Founders Day Celebration on October 2. Congratulations!

Jennie Liu’s path to TCOM was quite the journey. A former EMT and UNT Health Biomedical and Translational Sciences Med Sci student, Liu was inspired by her grandmother, who was a physician in a remote village in China. Liu still has her grandmother’s old stethoscope with her, but she is carrying her legacy into medicine. Discover more 👇
