Two distinguished TCOM graduates with two distinguished service awards. It was an honor to see Dr. Albert Yurvati and Dr. Monte Mitchell receive Distinguished Service Awards from the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association - TOMA for their dedication and commitment to osteopathic medicine. They don’t come any better than these two, who represent TCOM in the best way possible. Congratulations!

TCOM students stepped up by providing sports physicals this weekend to students of all ages preparing for the upcoming sports seasons. In total, students performed over 230 physicals for the kids to make sure they were ready for the upcoming season. First-and second-year students led by Dr. Damon Schranz volunteered at Nolan Catholic High School - Official and got a great chance to practice their clinical skills. Terrific work!

We were so proud to be a part of the recent Lois and W. Paul Bowman, MD Leukemia symposium that was a rousing success. TCOM’s Department of Pediatrics and Women’s Health hosted the first poster presentation and dinner as some of the best in field at fighting this terrible disease were on hand for a great symposium. Thanks to our friends Cook Children's for the collaboration!

This group is nothing to sneeze at. TCOM students Timothy Lim and Madeline Harvison led the way to form the Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology Student Interest Group. Lim turned a childhood scare into a career calling, and now a new grant from the Texas Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society has breathed life into the group.

TCOM’s patient safety course has made a remarkable impact in just six years, with over 1,400 students earning the CPPS credential. Now, in collaboration with the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine, Dr. Frank Filipetto and Dr. Lillee Gelinas will present with leaders from the school at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement - IHI forum in December. The presentation will highlight many of our successes as we continue to equip future physicians with patient safety competencies before they enter the workforce! Terrific work!

One of the dynamic specialties that is on the rise is Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. TCOM has sent 49 graduates into the field in the last five years, and we were honored to host an informational dinner with 14 representatives from three residency programs in the area. Part of that group included TCOM grads Dr. Grace Meehan from UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Austin Fajkus from Texas Rehabilitation Hospital, and Dr. Randa Habazi from Baylor University Medical Center. Thank you for coming back home to speak to our current students!
