It’s tough trying to convince organizations to support our mission and vision, knowing the need that’s all around us. We’re thankful to God for blessing us through great organizations like .co who help us grow in skills as a nonprofit and with a partner grant to support more students and their families after-school! I remember my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Campbell was writing a play for Black History Month, and all the students would have a part. I didn’t want to be in the play and speak in front of people in an assembly. Mrs. Campbell made me do it anyway, and it was so much fun! We also did a book report, which was great because I loved learning about history, reading and writing. I never forgot about Garret A. Morgan and his inventions. Mrs. Campbell was my favorite teacher. Every Black History Month I think about her and how she made learning about this time in American history fun. As a teacher, I helped my students learn about Americans who contributed greatly to their country and society. As we celebrate all the things in this month, share some important piece of history with someone. This post highlights Shirley Chisholm, but did you know about Robert Small or William Carney?
