in the summer of 1978, nearly 60% of American teenagers were working or actively looking for work. By 2017, that number had dropped all the way to 35%. It's crept back a little since the pandemic, landing around 38% as of May 2024.
Here's why we think this matters at a deeper level: it's not just that 6 in 10 kids in the seventies were learning financial skills with their summer jobs. They were learning something about who they are in relation to their choices. Identity shapes behavior long before behavior shows up, and nothing shapes identity like having real responsibility and real consequences attached to your decisions.

What an unbelievable day, encouraging the women at the Women's Leadership Summit at Turning Point USA . We shared that God, in His goodness, did a good thing when he made us us.
Oh, how we desperately want the women at this conference and the people who hear us to live long and be strong so they can find out why God, in His goodness, made them who they are. So honored to encourage and share the message God has given us at this conference.

This is literally the best. Started the week with one of our favorite groups, Summit's Graduate program, then spent a couple days with the incredible staff and kids at Summit in Manitou, and now we're on our way to the Women's Leadership Summit with TPUSA who have referred to Summit as the Navy Seals of apologetics training. Such an honor to encourage all these people attending these incredible events.

Divorce is one of those topics that almost everyone has an opinion about, but very few people want to talk about honestly. The headlines often focus on legal battles, custody arrangements, or statistics, but behind every number is a child trying to answer questions that feel much bigger than a court document.
Questions like am I still safe? Does this change who I am? Who can I count on now? What happens to our family?
Those questions matter because children don't experience divorce primarily as a legal event. They experience it as a relational one. They feel it in the routines that disappear, the conversations that change, the empty chair at dinner, and the uncertainty about what tomorrow will look like.
A recent study tracking more than five million children found that divorce can have long-term effects on educational outcomes, income, and family stability later in life. Researchers discovered that children who experienced divorce early in life often earned less as adults and faced additional challenges as they grew older.
Those findings can feel discouraging. But they are not destiny.
Dr. Kathy gives powerful insight to guide kids and families who are facing the separation caused by divorce. Check it out in today's podcast linked in the blog below 👇
