Spooktacular self portraits from 6& 7th graders inspired by Tim Burton. So much personality shines through these images.

Printmaking in fifth grade. Students were learning about printmaking using the endangered animals of Africa as their subject matter. They learned about the subtractive method of printing by etching their plate and used a printing press. Then they learned about additive printing by making a stamp to print. Busy and messy times.

7th & 8th grade students have been working hard on creative Alebrijes. This project had been laborious and one that requires patience. Finally nearing the finish line for many students!

Ceramic Tic Tac Toe boards. 7th and 8th graders made clay tic tac toe boards. They brought the creativity and the craftsmanship to this lesson. They were so successful and I am so proud of them. Some are still painting up to final exam week!

Shake it Off Dogs inspired by artist Iris Scott. The 5th graders created amazing pieces with this assignment! We had a splashing (or splattering) great time creating these pieces.

7th and 8th graders were so successful with this assignment. I am so proud of their hard work. A few years ago we created this as a color pencil assignment, and this year I changed it to be a watercolor assignment. That material change was a world of difference. They created their designs on a template digitally and then transferred that design to their paper.

My favorite way to hang hallway art. The wooden magnetic poster hanger and shelf liner. Then using small s hooks with clips for hanging. I love the reusable and easy to change out that this allows.

It’s okay if the classroom is not steeped in holiday vibes. These forest animals don’t mind and turned out amazing. Kudos to the 6th graders creating these amazing storybook like scenes.

Testing out different “filters” for our art work. The process to find the best neon light dupe has been my hyper-fixation. I have tried quite a few ways and have gotten close but I feel like it’s not quite there. Bottom row left black paper white gel pen and construction paper crayons. Middle white paper leave white gap bubble with marker black out the white paper. Right white paper trace with marker trace the middle with gel pen black out the white. Previously have used colored paper white paint lane cut and glue on black. That was super successful but detail work is hard with that method.

Ancient Egyptians were amazing and developed a type of self glazing clay. It is known as Egyptian Faience (sounds like science) or Egyptian Paste. The sixth graders worked with this clay to make animals like William the Hippo, a famous ceramic piece found in a tomb. A huge shout out to our amazing upper school ceramics teacher for mixing the clay up for us!

Merry and Bright wishes from the middle school art students of FWCD. We wrapped up our semester finishing these lights. They created foam engravings for the sockets and used soft pastels for the bulbs.
