Philippine Commission on Women: Sandy Montano
Philippine Commission on Women, Sandy Montano was recognized as Asia Leaders Awards Woman of Substance 2022 recently for her unflinching dedication to achieving gender equality and promoting women’s rights in all sectors, particularly women who are marginalized, are vulnerable to natural calamities, and are micro-entrepreneurs.
“It’s all about advancing productivity with women who are independent, self-reliant, and contribute as partners and co-creators across genders, ages, sociocultural and socioeconomic status, political and business persuasion, and demographics,” Usec. Sandy shared when she took over the helm of the 23-member collegial body in 2020.
When asked how did she started her path in the education sector and how did she spent her years as an expert in the field she have chosen.
“I’ve started my passion on education as a young girl from the barrio, due to poverty and hardship its a struggle to finish college but I saw it as a catalyst for change. It’s the best way of leveling off to other people .
The challenges she faced during the difficult moments in history as a student, as a professional and now as a leader for women's welfare, she mentioned that every stages of her life there’s a struggle and so many roadblocks she had to overcome.
“One of the milestones that I had when I was a student is that I was trained by my parents to be a street smart kid. As a professional I had my glory days of my life as a nurse and entrepreneur.”- Usec. Sandy added
As a public servant Usec Sandy have a bigger platform now to advocate gender equality and women empowerment, championing the cause of every women and girls.
Usec. Sandy added that her experienced in poverty and disaster were the most memorable life experiences that made her who she is today.

A graduate of the Asian Institute of Management Senior Managers Course, Usec. Sandy is more than a public servant.
She is currently CEO and Board Chairperson of the Community Health Education Emergency Rescue Services or CHEERS—an engagement that is going on two decades now—and a founding farmer, essential oil maker, and EFR baker for Tropika Everyday Wellness.
She is also an experienced Registered Nurse with experience in the consumer services industry and holder of a diploma in Food Safety Management from the University of the Philippines.

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and National Council of Women in the Philippines (NCWP) made a courtesy call on Ambassador Ilan Fluss. They discussed partnerships with the Embassy of Israel highlighting women empowerment.
Undersecretary Sandy Sanchez Montaño of PCW and Dr. Cecilia La Madrid Dy of NCWP expressed interest in the exchange of experiences, training, and capacity building programs focusing on gender, innovation, entrepreneurship, combating violence against women, and more.
We look forward to partnering with the initiatives of these organizations to support Filipino women!
