Recap from our last full day in Edinburgh, Scotland UK🏴🤍
Our day began where six generations of craftsmanship brought the story of tartan and kilt-making to life. We learned how tartan patterns are not only deeply tied to heritage and identity, but also how the brand has adapted over time to remain relevant in a modern market. Hearing about their work designing kilts for royalty highlighted the level of precision, tradition, and prestige behind each garment.
We then visited gaining insight into the artistry of hand-weaving and the modern evolution of traditional textiles. Watching the weavers at work gave us a deeper appreciation for the time, skill, and intentionality behind each piece, while also showing how contemporary designers are reimagining tartan through color, scale, and storytelling.
We ended the day at the National Museum of Scotland, exploring fashion through a historical lens with a curated exhibition tour led by industry experts. The collection emphasized how dress reflects cultural, social, and economic shifts over time, allowing us to connect what we’ve learned about heritage textiles to the broader narrative of fashion history.
A day rooted in tradition, storytelling, and the enduring influence of Scottish textiles on global fashion.

Then at Lochcarron of Scotland, we experienced tartan at its source. From traditional kilts to modern applications, watching the weaving process and exploring hundreds of authentic tartans showed how heritage continues to shape fashion today.
