We’re grateful for the connections, conversations, and inspiration, because finding the right career path is worth committing to. 💼❤️

Yesterday marked a powerful Day 2 in Cleveland for the Texas Wesleyan University Accounting Society. ✨
We learned so much from inspiring speakers who shared real-world insight, leadership lessons, and industry perspectives.

The “I Am a Game Changer” keynote reminded us to rise above pride, comfort, and fear — FEAR: Face Everything And Rise. One quote that stuck with us: “If you can lead yourself, you will never get lost in the crowd.” 💡

We also had a resume workshop with recruiters from Cummins, who gave honest and incredibly helpful feedback. Plus, Sally Willingham from Fifth Third Bank encouraged us to stay adaptable, communicate well, get involved, and embrace AI as the future of accounting. 📊🤖

We kept building connections, enjoyed a fun Family Feud–style game, and ended the night exploring the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and its amazing history. 🎸✨

Grateful for another day of growth, motivation, and unforgettable experiences. Proud to represent Wesleyan! 💙💛🐏

📊✨ Today’s Accounting Society meeting was an eye-opening look into the future of accounting with AI!

We were honored to host Sandra Bembenek, CPA and CEO of Strickland Solutions, who shared how AI is transforming our profession. From supporting firms during the ongoing accountant shortage, to audit transformation, domain-specific AI tools, and even the possibility of the end of busy season 👀 — the future is here.

A huge thank you to Sandra for taking the time to share her expertise with us! 🙌

Today we had the honor of hosting Anthony C. Thompson, Board Member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), for an inspiring visit with our students.

Mr. Thompson’s career spans more than three decades of service and leadership — from his time as a Colonel and Chief Budget Officer in the U.S. Air Force, to senior leadership at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, to his current role with the PCAOB. His talk highlighted the PCAOB’s vital mission of protecting investors, building trust in the capital markets, and ensuring accountability across the profession.

Our students were inspired not only by his professional expertise, but also by his example of integrity and public service.

We also had the privilege of recognizing two of our PCAOB Scholars:

🎓 Laura Ruvalcaba (2024)

🎓 Lauren Corkran (2025)

We extend our sincere thanks to Board Member Thompson for sharing his story and encouraging our students to pursue excellence in their own careers.

We are excited to welcome a guest speaker, Joshua Stone, from HF Sinclair to our campus. They offered insight from their experience on how students can increase their marketability when searching for a job.
We also had some important announcements and provided a quick lesson for students in this field!
