I wanted to share a finished product that some of the Cadets have been working on. Mrs. Ordaz (Principal of Cesar Chavez Elementary School) presented the idea and the opportunity of a Diamond Hill Pyramid reading project. It took a lot longer than I wanted but I am very proud of the product our Cadets put together. I would highlight Valeria Cabellero, a 6th grade student at Meacham Middle School. She is fantastic!!

Cadets in Major Daniel’s A-day classes recently discovered the positive impact they can have on their community. While going through the JROTC lesson on Planning Projects (U3C1L3), the Cadets were given the opportunity to plan, prepare, and present a lesson to 8th grade students at Meacham Middle School, Fort Worth, Texas. The Cadets taught the lesson, which covered the Bill of Rights, to five class periods with each class lasting 45 minutes. Ms. Nguyen, the 8th grade teacher who collaborated on the project and a former JROTC Cadet herself, was very excited to have our Cadets present their lesson to her students. The Cadets taught each class in a virtual environment using Ms. Nguyen’s Google Meet from their classroom at Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School. Their lesson included a quiz with prizes given to the student who had the highest score in each of Ms. Nguyen’s classes. Even though the Cadets were a little apprehensive at the start of each class, they were full of confidence when the day was done. The Cadets completed the project by submitting their After Action Review (AAR) and all the Cadets involved recommended teaching more lessons to 8th grade students in the future. What started out as a lesson for JROTC Cadets to learn about planning projects turned into an opportunity to connect with their community.
Cadets that taught the 8th grade students are Alexa Calvillo (11th grade), Alondra Villalpando (10th grade), Irving Cuevas Lopez (12th grade), Jonathan Munoz (9th grade), Jose Cruz (12th grade), Juan Manzanares Franco (10th grade), Leo Martinez (11th grade), Patricia Ramirez (12th grade), and Santiago Lezama Jimenez (10th grade).

Diamond Hill-Jarvis Cadet earns Lockheed Martin Internship
Cadet Lieutenant Colonel (C/LTC) Jose Cruz was a junior at Diamond Hill-Jarvis high school when he applied for the Lockheed Martin internship. The internship opportunity appealed to C/LTC Cruz because his long-term goal is to earn his college degree in mechanical engineering from Texas Christian University (TCU) . He became aware of the internship while participating in the Fort Worth ISD Gold Seal Program of Choice (Project Lead The Way – which is a four year program of engineering courses). He is the first Diamond Hill-Jarvis high school student to earn the internship position at Lockheed Martin. While doing the internship he is experiencing unique opportunities that are developing his hard / soft skills. C/LTC Cruz will attend TCU next year and he has earn over $88,000 in scholarship so far. He also plans to be in the TCU Army ROTC program to earn his commission in the U. S. Army Reserves. C/LTC Cruz’s influence has already been seen by inspiring a fellow Cadet (Cadet Major Manuel Luna) to apply for the Lockheed Martin internship for School Year 2021-2022. We learned this week that C/MAJ Luna earned the Lockheed Martin internship position for next year.
