Dreams coming into fruition. Longings fulfilled. New songs being released.

If I’ve learned anything in this process of creating and recording, it’s that my Father in heaven is in the details (whether I always see it or not) and He deeply deeply cares for us. Every part of this journey, I’ve felt His hand on me and guiding and directing my steps. From writing this song in a closet turned studio being encountered by God’s love during a very lonely season and questioning if I even was a songwriter- this song just spilled out of me as I heard the Father’s voice tell me “I will fill the longing in your chest.” Every empty place I will occupy. Every dark thought, I perceive. Every loss, I see. In these moments I am tempted to believe that you don’t care. But the truth is you are near and want to be with me. Sometimes you have to get alone and embrace the silence of discomfort to realize there’s a longing in all of us for more than just the physical touch of a lover, the constant reassurance of a parent, the familiarity of friends. There really is a God shaped hole in all of us, and He is constantly pursuing us and wanting to show us who He really is. Abba Father loving, Holy Spirit comforter, Jesus my savior from the darkest nights. He is the answer to the longing in my chest.

There are so many friends and family that I could name that have been the biggest encouragement and support to me- but wanted to name those that I couldn’t have done this without. Chris Matlock and Melissa Matlock Honey Root Records, I know this is a dream realized for you as well. I couldn’t have imagined better people to walk with, dream with and work with. Thank you for your love and constant support. @ Jackson Taylor you are an answer to prayer. You have been so patient, kind, humble and an encouragement through this whole process and are incredibly talented. Thank you to Sherry Muchira and Gideon Daniel Roberts for your listening ear and deep care to give good feedback on all these production wise. I’m so so grateful for your help and your support.

Those that gave to my gofundme to help send me to songlab... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I tried sending an update on the gofundme website but it wasn't working- so hopefully you see this.

Songlab was absolutely incredible. I met so many talented and wonderful worshippers and songwriters!! WOW. I was moved, inspired, encouraged, and challenged to not only continue to write but to continue to struggle. Ray Hughs said something that stuck with me, "true writers struggle with the words." There are so many moments I've compared myself to other writers, that I started to believe that I wasn't good enough because the lyrics don't always flow out of me, or the melody doesn't seem catchy enough.

When Meredith Mauldin (thank you so much Meredith) had Ray speak to us- it wasn't a talk about how to become a better songwriter (though that happens naturally just being there)It felt like a holy moment. It felt like a spiritual mantel being passed to us that were listening. A mantel giving us authority to go deep, to write from the real hard places, to be risky in the creative places. We are creative because God is creative. "there's nothing new under the sun..." Ray added, "so look above the sun."

That's what I plan to do. I want to keep struggling with the words, looking above the sun. If not just for my relationship with Abba to go deeper, for others to see a glimpse of His glory and love. Thank you, Meredith Mauldin thank you for going before and creating a path for others to follow and experience freedom in their songwriting. I highly recommend SongLab MSC to any and everyone wanting encouragement as a worship leader & songwriter. I hope I can go at least once a year :)
