Yesterday kicked off our first field trip of the 2026/2027 school year! ☀️

Of course we had to go back to one of our favorites, Jade Waters @ Hilton Anatole Dallas for a full day of swimming!

This school year we are a One Million Kids Outdoors partner! The One Million Kids Outdoors (1MKO) Initiative is a national movement that aims to get one million kids outdoors over the next year to transform their health and well-being.

Where should we get outside next? 🤠

When we started Field Trip Fridays, we didn't know it was going to be a nonprofit, or even any sort of business.

It started with about 100 homeschool families and a shared calendar. We just wanted our kids to get out of the house, learn something real, and meet other families doing the same thing. No big plan. No five year strategy. Just Fridays, and field trips.

Fast forward to now, and we're serving over 13,500 homeschool families across 414 zip codes across Texas. We've built relationships with more than 200 venue partners. We've put over $850,000 back into local Texas businesses just by showing up and bringing our community with us.

But the part that still gets us every time is Field Trips for All. Because some of the families who want to be part of this, who want their kids sitting next to a raptor handler or touching a fossil for the first time, can't afford the ticket price. And that shouldn't be what stands between a kid and an experience like that.

Since launching Field Trips for All, we've been able to get over 700 kids to trips they wouldn't have otherwise gotten to attend. Kids who are economically disadvantaged. Kids in rural areas. Kids with special needs. Kids who just needed someone to say yes, you belong here too.

We're not slowing down, and we don't want to have to tell a single family no because of what's in their bank account.

If you've ever watched your own kid's face light up on a field trip, you know exactly what we're trying to protect for other families.

Would you consider chipping in to help make that possible? Every dollar goes straight to covering a child's spot on a trip they'd otherwise miss.

North Texas Giving Day early giving begins now:

We are 22% to our goal - thank you for believing in what we're building together.

Yesterday, on our first day back from summer break, we received some exciting news: Field Trip Fridays has been awarded a generous grant from H-E-B! ✨

Since 1905, H-E-B has contributed to worthy causes throughout Texas and Mexico, and continues to support our community as strongly as ever. To help us honor that tradition, we encourage our members to visit their nearest H-E-B store.

This grant will directly benefit our Field Trips for All program.

What is Field Trips for All?

For any family that cannot financially access our field trips, we cover up to 100% of the cost so every child can attend.

Our Fall financial assistance application is opening soon. If you would like to be notified when the application opens, send us a quick email at [email protected].

Today we pause to honor the men and women who gave everything so that we could live, raise our families, and educate our children freely.

The freedom to homeschool, to choose how and where our children learn, is one we don't take for granted. It exists because of the sacrifices made by those we remember today.

From our Field Trip Fridays family to yours, happy Memorial Day. Hug your people a little tighter today. ❤️

Was your family in public school before switching to homeschooling? What caused the shift for you?

Was your family in public school before switching to homeschooling? What caused the shift for you?

The interesting part is that schools keep this an “enrollment crisis” instead of asking why so many families are leaving in the first place.

Texas public schools just saw their first major non-pandemic enrollment decline in nearly 40 years — and the numbers are honestly pretty shocking.

According to new Texas education data:

• Texas public schools lost over 76,000 students in a single year
• Enrollment dropped from about 5.54 million students to 5.47 million
• Experts are projecting another 100,000 student decline by 2030
• One demographer warned Texas could lose 120,000 more students NEXT year alone
• Large urban districts have lost nearly 170,000 students over the past decade
• Some districts are already closing campuses because of shrinking enrollment and funding losses

And what’s interesting is this is happening while Texas itself is still growing in population.

A lot of families are simply choosing different options now — homeschooling, hybrid programs, private schools, charter schools, online education, co-ops, flexible learning models, etc.

Whether people agree with that shift or not, it’s very obvious that parents are rethinking education in a way they weren’t 10 years ago.

And honestly… I don’t think this is just a temporary trend. I think it’s a massive cultural shift happening in real time.

Thank you to FC Dallas for welcoming us for a session of STEAM FC, where we learned the real-world application of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) through the lens of soccer!

And it was nice to be accompanied by other homeschool friends, The Homeschool Network and Fellowship Homeschool!

We look forward to another FC Dallas session in our 2026/2027 Field Trip year.
