The Atatiana Project provides hands-on STEAM learning opportunities for children in communities that are underrepresented in these fields. The week-long camp features a focus on a different area of STEAM each summer, with a variety of enrichment and financial literacy activities mixed in.

During our Engineering focus this year, the kids got to participate in several experiments and demonstrations in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil, and Aerospace Engineering.

It might be hot in Texas, but it's a bit chillier in Greenland! Take it from Matt Chumchal, biology professor and director of the Pre-Health Professions Institute, and doctoral students Nicole Fordree, Ph.D. ’31, and Camryn Middlebrooks, Ph.D. ’30. ❄️

Their team received grant funding to support the 2026–2027 Greenland field season, where they will continue studying how mercury moves through Arctic ecosystems. The project is also expanding to include research on an Arctic fox population that has never before been sampled for contaminants.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Carroll "C.A." Quarles, Professor Emeritus of Physics and Astronomy at TCU.

A proud Horned Frog, educator, mentor, and scholar, Dr. Quarles dedicated more than 50 years to teaching and inspiring students. Reflecting on his career, he said that TCU had given him "a lifelong career doing what I loved to do: teach, mentor and be involved with students." Those words perfectly capture the impact he had on generations of Horned Frogs.

His passion for physics was matched only by his commitment to helping others succeed, a commitment reflected in the scholarship he and his wife, Sonja, established to support future physics and astronomy students.

His influence will continue through the generations of students he taught, mentored, and encouraged. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and former students.

Rest in peace, Dr. Quarles. Thank you for all you gave to the TCU community.
