It is only a few weeks until our next class begins at NAIOSW. Eight first-year students will begin their journey to becoming a watchmaker. Current students, faculty, and admin are all excited for the new class to begin!
Each year, between class starts, we take the opportunity to go beyond our normal daily maintenance of the infrastructure, equipment, and tooling. We spend many hours refreshing the equipment, re-commissioning the workbenches, populating the toolkits, rectifying equipment, etc...
As a school, we do our best to model luxury so our students can see that luxury is, in a big way, about the level of customer service that comes along with the experience. This is a quality we want them to take with them at graduation - that it is never too much trouble to do everything to an exceptional level!

Congratulations to the class of 2016 at NAIOSW. They have all passed their balance staff intermediate exam.
At NAIOSW we learn to make the winding stem and balance staff on traditional watchmakers lathes and turns. Developing the high level skills to turn a balance staff, with a hand graver and turning between centers, is the aim. It is all about the skills, not the tools. These are skills they will transfer over to the most delicate of watch work. Their foundation is broad!
Kudos to all eight of them for the perseverance and willingness to develop these high level skills.
"It's what you bring to the tool, not what the tool brings to you!"
