Yesterday at Bass Hall, we welcomed a new crop of PA and PT students by giving them their white coats. Each student also took their respective oath. It was a great ceremony and an emotional moment for these soon-to-be clinicians.

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Jeffrey Mott, DHSc, PA-C! 🎉
We’re proud to share that Dr. Mott, Associate Professor in the UNTHSC Physician Assistant Studies Program, has been accepted as an official member of the AAPA Distinguished Fellows recognition program—a prestigious honor awarded to PAs who demonstrate outstanding contributions to patient care and the profession.
With a career spanning military service, trauma medicine, orthopedic care, and PA education, Dr. Mott has made a lasting impact in every space he’s served. From mentoring the next generation of PAs to shaping policy and academic excellence at HSC, his commitment is unwavering.

Please join us in welcoming Laine Markham, MMS, MBA, PA-C to our program as full time faculty.
PA Markham graduated from Texas Tech University (2003) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After working as a publication designer for 3 years, she began her journey to become a PA. She attended Midwestern University in Arizona, graduating with a Master of Medical Science in PA Studies (2012). She worked in orthopedic hand surgery and pain management before joining UNTHSC (2016) to work in cardiology at HSC Health. After 9 years of clinical practice, including 4 years of serving as the Clinical Medical Director of Multispecialty Medicine, in 2025 she transitioned to academia to serve as the Course Director for Cardiology I and II. In addition to her academic focus, she maintains a clinical cardiology practice, seeing patients at HSC Health and through Correctional Medicine at the Federal Medical Centers. She has a particular clinical interest in the management of cardiac implantable electronic devices. She earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Health Services Management (2024). She is highly involved in service within the university, including serving as the elected Faculty Senate President (2024-2025).
