After performing at the TXWES Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month Kickoff Celebration, Mariachi Oro Azul had a fun-packed weekend of performances.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, Oro Azul was invited to perform at the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 50th Anniversary Gala. Clad in their formal trajes, the ensemble performed as guests arrived for the gala.

“It was a really cool experience to play for such a large crowd and to be supported by Dr. Emily Messer, the new University President,” said guitarrón player and vocalist Elyssa Williams. “Knowing we have their support makes the world of difference.”

On the afternoon of Sept 17, members of Oro Azul joined the TXWES float as they marched in the Fiestas Patrias Parade in the Fort Worth Stockyards.

“It was fun to share quality time with my mariachi colleagues at the parade — we started with three [members], and now we have over 20,” said violinist Gidalti Chi. “Viva el Mariachi!”

Finally, the group volunteered on the morning of Sept. 18 to play at IDEA Edgecliff as student arrived for the school day as part of their Hispanic Celebration Month.

“It was amazing seeing everyone’s reactions as they walked in, being shocked and amazed by all these different instruments," said trumpeter and vocalist Patricio Izaguirre. “I loved how no matter the age of the student or teacher, they all stopped to listen!”
