A new year means a new semester for the ELP program! The English Language Partners (ELP) program is one of the projects under the UNESCO Chair.
Some fun facts for the ELP program:
1) We have served over 1,500 participants from Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, and North America.
2) The ELP program is, for some of our tutors, their first encounter with individuals who live outside of the U.S.
3) Our participants range from high school students to adults over 50 years old and speak multiple languages.

Congratulations Dr. Galla! 🎉
Candace Galla was born and raised on the island of Hawaiʻi in Pāhala, Kaʻū. Her research and scholarship focus on Hawaiian language and Indigenous languages at the intersection of education, revitalization, digital technology, well-being, traditional and cultural practices, and policy and planning; and decolonizing and Indigenizing the academy to create pathways for Indigenous thinkers and scholars, and scholarship at the local, national, and global level.
In this global role, Dr. Galla will work with international partners to strengthen education and policy frameworks that uphold linguistic diversity and self-determination for Indigenous and non-dominant language communities.

Fun fact: Our chair logo has a special story. It was the logo for the IYIL 2019: Perspectives conference, which was an important event that brought together many of our partners and collaborators, whom we still work with today, in the same space. Symbolically, our logo underscores our commitment to work alongside communities and find points of unity in diversity.
