The Great August Meteor Shower!
Looking for one last magical summer memory before early bedtimes kick in? Grab a blanket, head to your backyard or a local Fort Wayne park, and look up!
The Perseid Meteor Shower is building right now with peak being August 12-13th! This is one of the brightest and most active shooting star shows of the entire year.
The Science Lesson for Kids: Ask your kids: Are shooting stars actual falling stars? (Answer: Nope! They are tiny bits of space dust and rock—some as small as a grain of sand—burning up super fast in Earth's atmosphere!)
Pack some hot cocoa in a thermos and count how many meteors your family can spot in 15 minutes!

Happy Friday! With school starting on August 12th, it’s time for a quick refresher on our absolute favorite morning sport: The School Carline!
Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a nervous Kindergarten parent, following these 4 golden rules makes morning drop-off smooth, stress-free, and safe for everyone:
1️⃣ Hug & Say Goodbye Early: Do the big bear hugs, pep talks, and backpack checks before you pull up to the unloading zone.
2️⃣ Passenger Side Exit Only: Kids should always hop out on the sidewalk side of the vehicle.
3️⃣ Stay in Your Car: Drivers, stay behind the wheel to keep the line moving! If your child needs help unbuckling or carrying a large project, park and enter the main door instead.
4️⃣ Phone-Free Zone: Keep eyes up and phones down in the parking lot!
💡 Drop a ❤️ if you’re ready for a smooth carline season! What’s your favorite carline jam to play in the morning?

FORT WAYNE WEEKEND EXPLORER: An Indoor Jungle Downtown!
Happy Friday! Want to explore a desert, a tropical rainforest, and a gorgeous outdoor garden all in one afternoon? Head downtown to the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory.
The Plant STEM Challenge: As you walk through the different climates, challenge your kids to look at how the plants adapt. Ask them: Why does a desert cactus have sharp needles, while tropical jungle plants have massive, wide leaves? (Answer: Big leaves catch pouring rain, but cactus needles protect the plant and trap moisture in the dry heat!)

Did you know that honeybees have a secret language to talk to their team, and it involves a literal dance party?
When a scout bee finds an amazing patch of summer flowers, she flies back to the hive and performs what scientists call the "Waggle Dance." By shaking her body and walking in a special figure-eight pattern, she tells the rest of her team exactly how far away the food is and which direction to fly based on the sun!
Show Up Challenge: Put on some music in the living room today and challenge your kids to a "Waggle Dance" contest. Can they communicate a secret message to you just by moving?

FWCS TRANSITION DAYS: Setting Big and Little Kids Up For Success
Happy Tuesday! Big transitions can bring big emotions, which is why Fort Wayne Community Schools coordinates specific orientation days right before the official start of school.
For our incoming Kindergarteners: Save the date for Thursday, August 6th! This is the official Kindergarten Transition Day. Our littlest Lions can walk the hallways, practice sitting at their desks, and meet their new teacher one-on-one without the hustle and bustle of the older students around.
Showing Up: Walking through an empty school building ahead of time removes the fear of the unknown, turning nerves into pure excitement. Keep an eye on ParentSquare for specific time!

Support our school from home!
We know schedules are busy and getting into the school to volunteer isn't always easy. But you can still make a huge impact right from your living room!
This is a BRAND-NEW initiative for us this year, and we need your help to make it happen!
How it works: We’re building a permanent PTA Amazon Wishlist to supply monthly staff treats (coffee, snacks, flair pens, and restocks). Right now, the list has items for August plus a few general PTA needs. We’re working on adding October–December items soon!
The real talk: If this wishlist strategy works, we’ll keep it going all year. But if items aren't being purchased, we won't be able to continue it. Help us make this a reality so our teachers feel the love all year long!
Want to pitch in? Just grab an item off the list, and Amazon ships it right to the school!
