Concordia Lutheran High School JROTC

Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) at Concordia Lutheran High School is the Department of JROTC is truly the Battalion members’ home away from home.

Concordia’s leadership and development program is more than just classroom academics. The JROTC program offers numerous extracurricular activities; most are organized and conducted by the cadets. Cadets are able to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom. For those cadets choosing to participate in the program’s staff run extracurricular activities, competition drill teams practice either befo

re or after school. Weekends are filled with drill and rifle competitions, field trips, campouts, adventure team training, color guard performances, and various Cadet Battalion Clubs, as well as numerous community and service learning projects. Those cadets who qualify will have the privilege of attending a week of summer camp in June. Color Guard

Concordia’s Color Guard is considered the finest in Fort Wayne. The JROTC color guard is in high demand year round to perform throughout the community and has performed at such events as the opening of the new library, the swearing-in of the Fort Wayne City Officials, most of the city’s Naturalization Ceremonies for new U.S. citizens, as well Concordia’s home games. Their participation in these high profile events emphasizes the importance of Concordia Lutheran High School and the JROTC program in the community. These highly trained, dedicated cadets participate in over 60 community and school events annually. Adventure Training

Students who enjoy outdoor activities find the Adventure Training Team challenging. Activities such as camping, rappelling, cave exploring, skiing, kayaking, leadership reaction course, winter survival camp, and others are offered during the year. These students definitely have fun while challenging their skills and leadership abilities. Sports Marksmanship

The marksmanship teams develop a student’s focus, self-discipline and teamwork. Concordia’s marksmanship program is judged one of the best in the state. Cadet Battalion Rifle Teams include Junior Rifle Team, Varsity/Reserve Rifle Team and Air Rifle Team. The cadets have won 15 straight state championships. Individual cadets have qualified for the Junior Olympics and earned scholarships for collegiate marksmanship teams. Students on the varsity rifle team may earn a school letter. Drill Teams

Drill teams provide cadets with opportunities to practice leadership and teamwork and to participate in competitions against other schools throughout the Midwest. Drill teams include an Armed Exhibition team, Unarmed Exhibition team, Armed and Unarmed Regulation Drill teams, Co-ed, and Snap Squad. Varsity level team members may earn a school letter. Concordia also annually hosts one of the largest cadet organized drill competitions in the nation. Social Events

The cadets enjoy the annual Dining-In in the fall and the Officers’ Ball in the spring. The JROTC Officers’ Ball is an annual Cadet Battalion dinner and dance. While the music has changed over the more than 70 year tradition of the Officers’ Ball, the fun, excitement and glamour of this event for these cadets and their dates have not. Service

The Cadet Battalion’s constant community participation and extensive “Service Learning Projects” makes them one of Concordia’s most visible assets and important “Bridge to the Community.” Service is part of leadership and citizenship. The cadets provide 2,000 service hours annually to the school and community. JROTC knows the best way to learn citizenship is by the promotion of patriotism and community service. The program is one of Concordia’s most active. This service has made a significant contribution to the community and an even better effect on our cadets. They take great pride in knowing that they have each made a difference in the world.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to Hayden’s dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence both in academics and service. Concordia Lutheran High School as part of their Service Learning Project made a donation to the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum during the CPT Homer M. Clendenen Drill Meet and the SFC Paul Miller Air Rifle Invitational.

Donated Funds will go to support Memorials dedicated to 1LT Neil M. Shank and SSG Kevin M. Pape, Concordia Lutheran High School alum.

The Drill Teams performed well with the following results: Color Guard 1st Place, Snap Squad 1st Place, Co-Ed 1st Place, Armed Regulation Drill 2nd Place, and Unarmed Regulation Drill 3rd Place. Maddie Meyer was Top Gun of the day in precision marksmanship.
