“It’s a blessing to be speaking at Indiana Tech’s College of Business, being around the right individuals, the people who are going to make tomorrow better,” Smith said in an interview with WANE 15. “I love being able to connect in dialogue about us achieving greatness. My purpose beyond athletics is to help close the economic and educational gap, and that comes with developing routines but being involved and immersed in the community. Indiana Tech has a lot of resources and is very focused on the future and really excelling our students here, so my biggest thing is just being able to dialogue and converse.”

When Dr. Kathleen Hanold Watland’s husband was diagnosed with frontotemporal degeneration three years ago, she discovered how few resources existed for families facing the disease. So she set out to change that.

Today, she helps lead Indiana’s only FTD support group, connecting families with support, resources and each other.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, we’re bringing that work to campus with a free Frontotemporal Degeneration Awareness Week Celebration featuring medical experts, caregivers, advocates and representatives from the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.

FTD is the most common form of dementia affecting people under 60, yet many people have never heard of it until it affects someone they love.

Join us tomorrow from noon to 1 p.m. in the Multi-Flex Theater in Snyder Academic Center to learn more about FTD, hear from those directly impacted and discover how our community can support families facing the disease.

The event is free and open to the public. Pizza will be provided, and walk-ins are welcome.

We’re partnering with Gen.G, a global esports organization based in Seoul, South Korea, to give our epsorts students new opportunities to learn directly from professionals across esports, gaming, business, marketing, game development and more.

Through the partnership, students can gain access to:

Industry masterclasses and educational programming
Networking and mentorship with esports professionals
Career and professional development opportunities
International learning experiences
Behind-the-scenes exposure to the business of global esports

One of those opportunities is Gen.G’s Practicum Abroad, an immersive three-week experience in Seoul where students can explore South Korea’s esports ecosystem firsthand, visit industry organizations and build professional connections.

For our esports program, the partnership also creates new opportunities for Gen.G to support our teams and events while helping us continue to elevate the student experience.

“This partnership represents an exciting step forward for our esports program and reinforces our commitment to providing students with a first-class collegiate esports experience,” said esports director Jake Middleton.
