Kainos Microschool Microschool serving students ages 7-18 years old with a full time, personalized education. Opening Fall of 2025! Serving students in grades 5-12.

We also provide homeschool support services and classes and host the free Allen County Curriculum Closet. Kainos Microschool provides a faith-based, personalized learning experience that honors each child’s dignity. Last week, we were all ears at Kainos!

Dr. Travis Quiller, Director of Audiology at Ear, Nose & Throat Associates, gave our students an inside look at hearing—literally! Using an otoscope connected to the TV, he let students see inside their ears. Talk about a fresh perspective!

He also shared how hearing works, how to care for our hearing, and the schooling and training needed to become an audiologist.

Thank you, Dr. Quiller, for bringing science and career exploration to life for our students. We love connecting classroom learning with the people who put it into practice everyday!

Today was all about big ideas, brave presentations, and proud students.

Our end-of-quarter Student Showcase celebrates the creativity, curiosity, and hard work of our Kainos learners!

Sharing a project means more than showing a finished product. It means explaining your thinking, answering questions, and finding the courage to say, “Look what I learned!”

In our mixed-age community, growth looks different for every student and every student has something worth celebrating. We’re proud of the progress, perseverance, and imagination behind their work.

We Turned Every Student Into an AI Character

Did this have anything to do with our curriculum? Nope.

Did we turn every student (and teacher!) into a ridiculous AI character anyway? Absolutely.

One of the things we love most about Kainos is that school gets to be a place where kids learn and laugh.

So we transformed our crew into everything from adventurers and athletes to garden gnomes, fairies, race car drivers, and several creations that probably require a little explanation.

Then we put them all on the wall for the grand reveal.

The verdict: very little productivity occurred for the next several minutes but lots of laughs were had!

We take learning seriously but we don't think we have to take ourselves seriously all the time.

And sometimes, building a school community looks like laughing together at the absolutely unhinged AI version of your teacher.

Step 1: Learn how the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids.

Step 2: Build your own.

Step 3: Discover that constructing a pyramid...even out of sugar cubes...is considerably more complicated than anticipated.

After studying ancient Egypt and learning about how the pyramids were constructed, our students put their knowledge to work by designing and building their own sugar cube pyramids.

History is a whole lot more memorable when you get to touch it, build it, problem-solve through it…and leave the classroom covered in a suspicious amount of sugar.

Sometimes learning looks like a textbook.

And sometimes it looks like sitting at a table in your pajamas solving a giant alphabet puzzle.

At Kainos, we know that learning doesn’t have to look the same for every student...or even the same every day. Games, puzzles, manipulatives, movement, conversation, and hands-on activities all have a place in the classroom.

Because when kids are engaged, curious, and willing to keep trying…there’s a whole lot of learning happening.

And yes, pajamas occasionally make an appearance too.

There is something powerful about teaching a table of five students instead of trying to teach a room of 30.

You can see the confused face, you can hear the question someone is afraid to ask and you can stop, explain something differently, grab a whiteboard, give another example, or realize that a student is ready to move ahead.

Small-group instruction isn't just about having fewer students.

It's about having the flexibility to actually respond to the students sitting in front of you.

That's one of the things we value most about learning at Kainos.

This desk might be one of our favorite pictures of what learning at Kainos looks like.

A novel study.
Math curriculum.
A giant project.
Markers everywhere.

A collection of tiny desk pets nearby, obviously conducting important supervisory work.

Learning doesn't always fit neatly into one subject, one worksheet, or one 45-minute block.

Sometimes the best learning looks a little messy and requires copious amounts of hydration.

And we're perfectly okay with that.

Personalized learning gets talked about a lot.

But what does it actually look like?

At Kainos, it might mean one student working independently through math while another meets one-on-one with an instructor. It might mean a small group gathered around a table for direct instruction while students across the room work at completely different levels and on completely different subjects.

It’s not 30 kids doing the same worksheet at the same time.

It’s knowing our students well enough to ask: What does this student need next?
Then building the day around helping them get there.

That’s the beauty, and occasionally the controlled chaos, of our modern one-room schoolhouse.
