안녕하세요 여러분! Korea Festival is coming up this weekend!
Did you know that tomorrow, Tuesday September 21st, is Chuseok (추석), one of Korea’s most important national holidays? Although tomorrow is the official holiday, Koreans also celebrate the day before and after, as well as this past weekend.
Chuseok is similar to the American Thanksgiving Day, so it is often called Korean Thanksgiving. It occurs every year on the day of the harvest moon—the largest full moon according to the lunar calendar.
Traditionally, Korean families gather together to hold memorial services for their ancestors, after which they share a meal together. You may have heard of the traditional food Songpyeon (송편), which are half moon shaped rice cakes commonly filled with sweetened beans or sesame seeds. Other foods such as Korean pancakes (전) and seasonal fruits, such as pears, apples, and persimmons, are often enjoyed.
