Socratic Parenting is a new parenting paradigm based on ancient wisdom. There are no catchy tricks or formulas guaranteeing instant results. Instead, Socratic Parenting encourages parents to develop their own personal parenting philosophy, to model the behavior they want to see in their children and to engage their children in the kinds of activities and conversations that create responsible, independent thinkers.

Families need affordable health care. The sooner we make it universal, the better.
“The Trump administration has raised healthcare costs, reduced Medicaid access, and increased premiums and deductibles.”
“The imminent sharp rise in health insurance premiums has been front page news for several months, but unaffordable costs are just one of the health threats faced by the vast majority of Americans who cannot pay exorbitant costs out of pocket.”
The Pro-Death Administration One of the outcomes of Trump’s “culture war” approach to the pandemic during his first administration was the documented excess death rate of the MAGA partisans who refused to wea…

Co-parenting is an art, not a science, but it must be based in fact, not fantasy.
The invisible unpaid labor that women traditionally do at home is reinforced nationally by a GDP that doesn’t count the labor of all those who care for our children, the elderly, and those with special needs. Only when our leaders take the time to understand this in their own home and families can they begin to address this exploitation in our cities, states, and country.

"Barack Obama once spent an entire Saturday following Michelle around their Chicago house with a notebook, writing down every single task she completed—laundry sorting, grocery list making, permission slip signing, bill paying, appointment scheduling, toy organizing, meal planning—because she'd exploded at him the night before screaming that he had no idea how much invisible labor she performed daily while he got to focus solely on work and politics because she'd constructed a household that functioned so smoothly he never had to think about how it happened. Michelle told Gayle King that watching Barack actually track her domestic labor for twelve hours was more impactful than any argument could've been, because by afternoon his hand was cramping from writing and he'd only captured a fraction of what she managed constantly while also working full-time at the hospital, and his face had transformed from defensive skepticism to genuine horror as he realized their household only worked because Michelle was doing the work of two full people. What history doesn't capture is that Barack's notebook from that Saturday became a turning point in their marriage—he'd documented forty-seven separate tasks Michelle had completed before noon, and when he tried to help with laundry, he realized he didn't know which clothes could be dried versus air-dried, didn't know where anything lived in their house, didn't know their daughters' clothing sizes or their pediatrician's name or when library books were due or which kid was allergic to which foods. Barack sat at their kitchen table that evening reading his notebook back to Michelle, and instead of defending himself or explaining why his political work was more important, he just said 'I've been a terrible partner—you've been running our entire life while I've been playing at politics, and I'm ashamed that I needed a notebook to see what you've been telling me for years.' That Saturday tracking exercise led to actual behavior change: Barack started handling specific household domains completely—he became the parent who did all school communication, who managed their daughters' activity schedules, who handled grocery shopping every week—not to split labor exactly evenly, because his travel made that impossible, but to ensure Michelle wasn't carrying every single operational burden while he floated above the logistics having deep thoughts about community organizing. Michelle later told friends that the notebook Saturday was when Barack stopped being a helper in their household and started being an actual co-parent who understood that raising children required invisible maintenance work, not just showing up for cute moments and delegating everything difficult to the mother who was somehow supposed to manage full-time employment and full-time household operations simultaneously without ever appearing stressed or resentful. Our most vulnerable children are now at even greater risk with the elimination of federal funding for Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Guardians Ad Litem (GAL) eliminated. 😞
The U.S. Congress, through the annual appropriations laws, has funded the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program for more than 30 years. This loss of funding impacts the training, technical assistance and subawards to member programs across the country. Without these funds, the work of CASA/GAL programs across the country will be impacted along with more than 200,000 children involved in child abuse and neglect proceedings.

For the first time in 22 years, a child has died from the measles. The child was healthy but unvaccinated before contracting the disease. There are absolutely children who should not be vaccinated due to medical issues. This does not appear to be one of those children. To eradicate the measles and protect those children who cannot safely be vaccinated from this highly contagious, deadly disease, we need for 95% of the population to have immunity. This can only happen through vaccination. That is the singular, clear message that Americans need to hear from the head of HHS and CDC.

This explanation in response to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s support for school vouchers is equally true in Indiana.
Greg Abbott: We want to offer school choice because the gap between our highest and our lowest achieving students is getting bigger. Any child can attend a private school if they choose.
Family A: Awesome! My child already attends a private school because I am rich and can afford it! The voucher now gives me a $10,000 discount on what I’m already paying!
Abbott: You’re welcome!
Family B: Awesome! $10,000 is great, but our school choice costs $20,000 a year. How do I pay the rest?
Abbott: Since your child has great test scores, the school will give them a scholarship to cover the rest of the cost.
Family C: Awesome! $10,000 is great, but our school choice costs $20,000 a year. How do I pay the rest?
Abbott: Since your child didn’t have the best test scores, it’s not our problem. Go to the now underfunded public school.
Family D: Awesome! But, my child has autism and the private school doesn’t have any programs to deal with that.
Abbott: Not my problem. Go to the now underfunded public school.
Family E: So awesome! What time will the bus be by to pick up my child?
Abbott: It won’t, but it’s not my problem. Go to the now underfunded public school.
Family F: Awesome! But, my child has an IEP for his special needs and our school of choice doesn’t have programs to help him.
Abbott: Not my problem. Go to the now underfunded public school.
Family G: I homeschool already and the $10,000 will be so nice to help us.
Abbott: Yes! Just make sure you get all your curriculum from MY approved vendors list. I want the control. Oh by the way, how does the STAAR test sound? You will trade your freedom for funding!
Family H: Awesome! But I live in a rural area. There aren't any schools other than the public schools within 100 miles of me. How can I use my $10000 voucher?
Abbott: Not my problem! Go to the now underfunded school.
Public School: How is taking only high test scorers with no special needs who can provide their own transportation (which usually equates to being middle or upper class) going to shrink the gap between the highest and lowest achieving students?
Abbott: Not my problem. Do more with less. I’m just happy that my rich donors are now happy with their discount and I know my kid doesn’t have to sit next to a poor kid or one with a learning disability in class. Win-win for everyone! By the way, your special education student test scores WILL be counted towards your school test score average.
Public Schools: That’s not really fair. That’s not comparing apples to apples since the private schools don’t have to accept kids who bring down their test score average.
Abbott: Not my problem. We will continue to make it look like YOU are the biggest failure in the world.
Hoosiers—call your representatives to tell them you do NOT support vouchers aka "school choice". Public $$ is for public schools

Here’s a reality check on what the Department of Education does and does not do:
What the DOE DOES:
✅ Protects students with disabilities – Enforces IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) and 504 plans under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Without this, schools could refuse accommodations to kids who need them.
✅ Ensures equal access to education – Enforces Title IX (protecting students from s*x discrimination), Title VI(protecting students from racial discrimination), and laws ensuring English language learners and low-income students get a fair shot.
✅ Provides federal education funding – Sends billions to public schools, Title I schools (low-income students), special education programs, and Pell Grants for college students.
✅ Oversees federal student loans– Manages programs like Public Service Loan Forgiveness, income-driven repayment plans, and loan relief programs (yes, the ones you cheered for). And it’s said you’ll still be responsible for paying the loans you’ve already taken out regardless of if the DOE gets disbanded
✅ Holds schools accountable– Investigates discrimination, ensures civil rights laws are followed, and prevents fraud in higher education (like scam colleges that take your money and leave you with useless degrees).
✅ Supports teachers and education research – Funds initiatives to improve teaching methods, early childhood education, and STEM programs to keep our kids competitive globally.
What the DOE DOES NOT Do:
❌ Does NOT control what your kids learn – State and local school boards decide curriculum, textbooks, and what’s taught in history or science class. The DOE doesn’t force any particular agenda on schools.
❌ Does NOT run public schools – Schools are managed by states and local districts—NOT the federal government.
❌ Does NOT hire or fire teachers – Teacher salaries, hiring, and qualifications are determined by state laws and local school boards.
❌ Does NOT mandate Common Core – That’s a state decision. The DOE doesn’t force states to adopt any particular education standards.
❌ Does NOT regulate private schools – Private and religious schools operate independently, and while some federal protections apply, the DOE doesn’t dictate how they run.
❌ Does NOT set tuition prices for colleges – Public universities are funded by **state governments**, and they set their own tuition. The DOE only provides federal aid and loan programs.

The “mommy wars” of the 1970’s pitting women who worked in the public sphere and those who stayed home are taking a deadly turn in 2025 as “good” women are called to embrace their own suffering and death to protect a nonviable fetus while “bad” women remain unwilling to put their own life and the well-being of the living, breathing children who need them at risk.
