Parkview Health today celebrated the groundbreaking of its future full-service hospital and medical office building in West Lafayette, marking a major milestone in the health system's commitment to serving the evolving healthcare needs of Tippecanoe County. The approximately $200 million project is being developed near the intersection of N 100 W and Kalberer Road on land acquired from the Purdue Research Foundation (PRF).

First announced in July 2025, the project will bring a nearly 200,000-square-foot hospital to West Lafayette, featuring up to 40 inpatient beds, a 24/7 emergency department, surgical and procedural services, specialty care, lab and imaging services, a comprehensive range of outpatient offerings and space for future expansion. A neighboring medical office building will provide primary and specialty care services for the community.

The development is expected to create an estimated 250 healthcare jobs while strengthening access to care for residents throughout West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County and the surrounding region.

"A year ago, we shared our vision for bringing a full-service hospital to West Lafayette. Today, we're turning that vision into reality," said Dr. Greg Johnson, chief physician executive of growth markets, Parkview Health. "This community is expanding rapidly, and healthcare infrastructure needs to keep pace. We're excited to begin building a hospital that will expand access to emergency, inpatient and specialty care close to home for the people of Tippecanoe County.”

"From the beginning, our goal has been to become a trusted healthcare partner in West Lafayette," added John Bowen, Parkview Health’s chief growth markets officer. "As construction gets underway, we're excited to continue building relationships throughout the community and working alongside local leaders to support the region's long-term growth and success."

Parkview leaders, community partners, local officials and project stakeholders gathered for the ceremony to commemorate the start of construction and celebrate the collaboration that helped bring the project to fruition.

"Access to medical care is essential to our growing community and to the economic success of our region,” said Mitch Daniels, Interim President, Purdue University. “Parkview’s commitment helps meet that vital need and we look forward to expanded medical options for Purdue and its community partners.”

“From my time in Congress representing West Lafayette to now as their Attorney General, I know this area to be a special place with great people,” Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita said. “So, it’s no coincidence Parkview Health chose to build here with the intention of delivering greater access to healthcare and real results for this community. As a regulator, I must reserve judgment, but I do have high expectations for the value this project can deliver.”

Pontiac Street Market, 918 E. Pontiac Street, will host its third annual Pack 2 School event on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The yearly back-to-school event brings a wide range of free items and services on a first-come, first-served basis to attendees, as well as offer fun activities and entertainment to Pontiac Street.

Parkview Health providers will be on site to provide free physicals for students, while attendees can also grab free items including backpacks and school supplies, socks, hygiene bags, as well as a back-to-school haircut or styling. Multiple community nonprofits and vendors will also be on site providing information and giveaways.

Free food and beverages and entertainment, including live music, bounce houses, face painting and kids’ activities, will also be available.

To take advantage of the services at Pack 2 School, registration is required before the event. On-site registration will be limited. Parents can sign up online at https://engage.cityoffortwayne.org/pack-to-school through July 30.

“The Pontiac Street Market was founded not just to provide healthy food to the Pontiac Street neighborhood, but to become a hub for the community,” said LaQueisha Brown, general manager, Pontiac Street Market. “Pack 2 School is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors, have some fun and get equipped to launch into a new school year. We’re thankful for all of the community support that has helped us bring this event back for its third year.”

The Pontiac Street Market was developed as a cooperative venture between Parkview Health and the City of Fort Wayne to bring healthy groceries and services to the Pontiac Street neighborhood. Opened in fall 2023, the market is operated by Sodexo, Parkview’s food services vendor, and hosts community events throughout the year.

Earlier this year, the Pontiac Street Market was awarded a Creative Choice Merchandising Award by the National Grocers Association, recognizing the Pack 2 School program in its Community Engagement category.
