Fort Wayne Sister Cities International promotes cultural understanding, educational exchange and international friendship by fostering relationships between Fort Wayne and its sister cities around the world. Participation in the Sister Cities International Homecoming provides opportunities for local leaders to bring new ideas and resources back to the community while strengthening Fort Wayne's role in global citizen diplomacy.

Recently, two of our board members were in Washington, D.C. for the Sister Cities International Homecoming celebration.

"The conference provided valuable ideas and resources that will strengthen the work we do at Fort Wayne Sister Cities International," Board President Melissa Rinehart said. "I returned energized by the passion, creativity and commitment demonstrated by fellow citizen diplomats. In a world that often feels divided, Sister Cities programs remind us that personal connections transcend geographic boundaries, and the importance of building understanding across cultures has never been more relevant."

While there, Melissa Rinehart and Susannah Arthur met up with some members of Sister Cities from Greenfield, Indiana and talk with the ambassador of Japan, Shigeo Yamada.

Fort Wayne Sister Cities International board members Melissa Rinehart and Susannah Arthur recently represented the organization at the Sister Cities International Homecoming in Washington, D.C., joining citizen diplomats, community leaders and international partners from around the world to celebrate the organization's legacy and explore new opportunities for global engagement.

The anniversary gathering highlighted the impact of citizen diplomacy while providing educational sessions, networking opportunities and discussions focused on strengthening international relationships through local communities.

Fort Wayne Sister Cities is looking for passionate community members to serve as chaperones for our 2027 international exchanges. This is a unique opportunity to support students, experience another culture, and help strengthen global connections.

Accepting Applications through June 26, 2026 (11:59pm) for chaperoning travel groups to Gera, Germany or Plock, Poland in Summer 2027.

Interview Date: July 16, 2026 between 4-7pm.

Minimum age of 25

Current/previous experience working with youth

Ability to obtain or hold CPR and first-aid certification valid through September of the travel year.

Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.

Availability to travel in June or July of the exchange year.
