It's summer, which means pools, floaties, and maybe a donut-shaped inner tube or two.

But you already know the rule: Never Let Donkeys in the Pool. 🐴🚫

So as you soak up the sun this weekend, keep those six NNIs poolside with you.

🌞 Never, never, never give up.
🌞 Learning leaders.
🌞 Deal with it.
🌞 Impeccable integrity.
🌞 To whom much is given, much is required.

Every day, eligibility professionals make decisions that directly impact the people and families they serve. It's challenging work that requires navigating complex rules, evolving guidance, aging technology, and demanding workloads.

USDA recently reported a national SNAP payment error rate of 10.62% for FY2025. While many of these errors are unintentional, states with higher error rates may be responsible for paying back a portion of SNAP benefit costs beginning in FY2028.

With a strong incentive to improve payment accuracy, training reinforcement is one of the most effective ways agencies can strengthen performance. Short refreshers, supervisor coaching, real-world practice, and up-to-date performance support help people apply what they've learned with greater confidence and consistency.

Strategic plans for health information exchange are aging out faster than they used to.

TEFCA is live. CMS Interoperability Rules have shifted. Medicaid and public health modernization efforts are each moving on their own timeline.

Navigating that takes more than a plan. It takes governance that can flex, stakeholders who stay engaged, and funding that holds up over time.

Portland gets over 150 rainy days a year. This year, most of us are bracing for a different kind of downpour: interoperability deadlines, multi-vendor coordination, legacy overhauls, AI integration, H.R.1 provisions, shifting match rates, and new reporting mandates, all landing at once.

If you're reaching for an umbrella more than steering the ship these days, you're not alone.

We'll be at MESC 2026 in Portland, booth #607, working through all of it with state and vendor teams. Stop by if any of this sounds familiar.

Rural Health Transformation Program work is picking up speed across the country, and stakeholder engagement is exactly the kind of challenge our team knows well. It takes the right mix of listening, coordination, and follow-through, and it's a strength we're proud to bring to states and HIE partners.

Behind every Medicaid renewal notice is someone's coverage, someone's care, someone's peace of mind. Ex parte renewal sounds purely technical, but it's really about whether a person stays covered without extra paperwork or needs to take an extra step to complete their renewal.

The National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD) just published a solid brief on the mechanics. It walks through how the Federal Data Services Hub, state wage records, and tools like Emmy work together, and where the gaps still are for verifying work and community engagement requirements.

The line that stood out to us: data infrastructure only gets a state so far. Clear system logic, ongoing auditing, and staff ready to handle the cases automation can't resolve all matter just as much.
