Portage Middle School PTSA

This evening at Portage Middle School's Spring Concert, we were honored to celebrate the legacy of our one and only Mr. Gary Gerke with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indiana Council of Parents and Teachers. As most of you know, Mr. Gerke is retiring after 36 years of teaching at Portage. He has been an integral part of our school, not only as an exceptional music teacher, but also as a track and football coach, among many other roles. Mr. Gerke has made an amazing impact on every student he has come into contact with. While we are going to miss him dearly, we wish him the utmost happiness in his retirement and future endeavors. Thank you sincerely for everything you have done for Portage, Mr. Gerke.

For the final week of school, we are in need of the following:

-Honey buns, zebra cakes, oatmeal creme pies, swiss cake rolls
-Small bags takis + hot fries
-Pop tarts

If you're able to contribute, please send items in with your student or drop them off in the main office marked “Christner Coffee Cart.”

Join us Wednesday, May 13 for the Portage Spring Concert. The PTSA will also be selling snacks and drinks for $1, all proceeds will go toward the Portage Music Department. We look forward to celebrating the end of the school year with you!

This week we showered the staff at Portage Middle School. Special thanks to Chick-fil-A, Crumbl, Icing for Izaac, Panera Bread, and Blendin Protein + Energy!! It's hard to believe summer is just around the corner, here's to the final countdown!

To all the incredible teachers and staff of Portage Middle School—thank you. Thank you for the early mornings, the late nights, and the countless hours you pour into shaping minds and hearts.

Thank you for your patience, your creativity, and your unwavering dedication, even on the toughest days. You do so much more than teach—you inspire, encourage, and make a lasting difference in ways that often go unseen. Because of you, students feel supported, challenged, and capable of achieving great things. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and it is deeply appreciated today and every day. 💙

Portage Middle School is excited to host our Valentine’s Dance on Wednesday, February 11th from 2:30–4:30 PM.

Activity buses will be available and will depart at 4:45 PM.

Free Admission Opportunity
Students can earn free admission to the Valentine’s Dance and access to the VIP Lounge by meeting one of the following academic criteria:

At Proficiency
Above Proficiency

Improved from Below Proficiency to Approaching Proficiency
The VIP Lounge will include pizza, snacks, bottled water, soft drinks, and slushies.

Students who do not earn free admission may still attend the dance by purchasing a ticket for $5.

After-Dance Skating Party
Following the dance, students will have the opportunity to attend a Skating Party at Roller Dome North on Wednesday, February 11th from 5:30–7:30 PM, located at 444 W Coliseum Blvd.

Cost: $5

This will be a fun-filled afternoon and evening celebrating positive behavior, academic growth, and school spirit. We hope your student can join us!

The PTSA will also be holding their February meeting at the Roller Dome, we'd love to have you join us to hear what's been happening over the last month and hear what's coming up in the next month.
